Just wondering what the oil mixing ratio is for a 1986 250r? Also, what kind of oil do you guys use? Thanks for any input

Hey whats the oil that smells good. Like the smells of the midget cars that race on a dirt track in circles?

It's a fuel additive, don't think it can be used on a 2-stroke though..

I had some friends that used to run some type of soybean oil in thier two stroke motorcycle motors... that smelled pretty good..

What you're smelling is the sweet aroma of quality synthetic fuel. Generelly VP. Higher grades of Torco produce that pleasant smell, as well as some others out there. All fuels do however have distinct smells that are added, much like the color system thats used to quickly tell them apart. This Sweet smell usually comes at a premium price, usually $7-9 a gallon for LEADED race fuel. Don't confuse the so called (RACE FUEL) that you can buy at the gas station with true fuel. That fuel is almost always, no more than 96ROM, and WITHOUT LEAD! It is legal for road use. The good stuff is bought at finer speed shops, and IS NOT legal for road use. Always try and buy fuel from factory sealed drums stored inside and in darkness. Never buy fuel from large underground tanks, especially if turnover is slow. It will have old residual fuel, and possible moisture issues, so be aware of this. When 40 or 50-1 is used, the smell of oil not detectable over the burnt fuel. Ahh, think im gonna have to go to the garage.

I like to think of the smell that the oils have (especially Klotz) are an advertisment and marketing vantage. Seriously think about it. Smell Klotz oil once and you willl know that smell for the rest of your life. Then everytime your out on the trail and you smell it, you will be reminded of Klots. Its like pepsi and Coca cola. They dontate tons of free signs and products, but they all have the cola tradmark on them to make you think about how thirsty you are.

Disclaimer-other oils may smell just as bad if not worse, but i've had the most experience with the Klotz smell personally.

I started out running 32:1 but i ended up fouling plugs like there was no tomorrow; I would say start with the 32:1 then lean it out if you need too.

Liquid-Darkness, I believe the oil you might be referring too is "Ipone." It's made in Europe and imported into Canada and the USA too I'm quite sure. You'll just have to search high-end snowmobile shops to purchase it. It gives off an incredible strawberry smell when burned. I have not run it personally but have smelled it from trail riding behind sleds. Very cool and unique smell. I'll buy some just to try once I run out of my Amsoil Interceptor, which burns very clean, just not with a pleasant scent. Check out the Ipone website.

YES! Ipone and Polaris VES-II oil both smell like strawberry when you use them. I had the Ipone stuff in my LT-80 and everyone would compliment me on the exhaust smell, girls loved it :naughty:

For a 32:1 mixture, what octane do most of you use?

RedRider_AK

You should be able to run regular pump gas, putting premium into the tank is usually just money down the drain unless you have engine mods (not a pipe/K&N, I mean REAL engine mods)...

I like to run premium in mine :)

Are you crazy????? or just still half asleep.
You have to run premium gas in a 86 250r,Or any other high performance 2 stroke.Unless you want massive performance problems, or engine damage ,or both.
And yes do a search .
This question has been asked like a billion times on here.

I run Premium pump gas with 40:1 Castor 927 in my 85R.
I used to use Amsoil Dominator after I broke in motor on rebuild for a year but decided to switch the Castor 927.
I like the 927 better to be honest but both the Dominator and 927 are great oils.
