i got a 84 250r 3 days ago for 400.00 is runs and is in great shape

but now has developed a bottom end nock
i suspect a sloppy rod. i was thinking that since i was going to tear it apart i would do some work to it. im looking for more power what should i do ???
i heard the 300r was a good choice but im not sure what to do or what my options even are im looking to spend around 3 to 400.00 what do all of you R owners think

im already going to do new piston, rings, rod ,gaskets

should i go higher comp piston ??
should i go longer rod ??
carb ?? jets?? reeds??

need advice

thanks andy

The stock carb is really restrictive. I would suggest you step up to a waterpumper carb (85-86 R carb) at least.

Other then that, get a good set of reeds, like some Boyeseen power reeds.

And then the obvious Wiseco piston.

The carb and reeds should set you back no more then $100 if you shop right.

Good luck.

Really high compression means race fuel, all the time, gets kind of expensive. I say keep it simple, like carb, exhaust, maybee a little porting work. Stuff like that doesnt hurt the reliability of the bike and you will have less headaches, just my 2 cents

you cant get a high comp piston for 82-84 250r's or any 2 stroke as far as i know but i know deff not for the 82-84 r's. they only make one piston. they dont make longer rods either. to up the compression you could have the head shaved. porting is opening up the ports you see in the cylinder making them bigger and flow better.
