I'v never had a 185 but on my old 83 110 you had to unscrew the locknut on the adjusting screw. Turn the screw clockwise until it stopped and then slowly and lightly turn it counterclockwise until resistance was felt. Then you tighten the nut back down whilst making sure not to turn the screw with it. But like i said this was for my 83 110 im not sure if its the same for the 185.

As far as adjusting it, on mine I loosened the locknut, and when I turned the screw in and out it adjusted at what rpm the clutch engaged at. Anything from just pressing on the shifter and the bike jumps, to giving it lots of time and gas.

Dont know if that was any help since it didn't really explain why the clutch would slip.

so does the screw adjust the slippage or the time it engages?

on an 82 200 I adjusted the new clutch like rusty said.. i loosened the nut and turned the screw until I felt resistance - then adjusted it back about 1/4 turn..

get a haynes / clymers or have someone copy you on the procedure.

sounds like it is worn.
