I want to know what is the oil/gas ratio for an 84 250r. It has a sticker in the tank that says 20:1. That didnt sound right. And also what kind of oil do i put in the crank.

I'd say 20:1 is/was right in 1984, given the oil technology they had back then. You'd be fine running any of today's synthetic or synthetic blend at 40:1 or so, some will even go 50:1 or leaner.
By oil for the crank I suppose you mean for the transmission. I run Royal Purple Syncromax and like it fine. Some guys run Type F automatic transmission fluid with good results. You can run the specialty oil made for 2-stroke motorcycle transmissions made by the motocycle oil guys like Maxima and Bel Ray. I've even seen guys run regular motor oil in the transmission, but if you go that route, use something like a 10w40 or 20w50 with API SL or SJ classification. You'd want to stay away from "energy conserving" motor oils as they contain friction modifiers that won't work well with the wet clutch.
Also any motorcycle specific engine oil will work in the transmission of a 2-stroke trike.
Hope this helps, Chris

The '85 250r manual says to use Honda 4 stroke oil in the tranny, just to give you an idea. Personally I use regular 10w-40 oil, just have to change it more often.

when i first got my 84 R I mixed 50:1 and it ran super. I noticed the manual denoted 20:1 and dropped down to 32:1 to play it safe. It runs horrible at 32:1...
your jet size, altitude, gap etc will make a diff...
