I apologize in advance for the length of this question.
I am currently reviving an '85 ATC 110. After rebuilding the top-end, and putting on a new carb (all bought from Honda for lotsa $$ before I knew ya'll were out there), I set it aside for a couple of years after purchasing a Polaris 700. Now I want to get back on my original ride - it could get me into tight spots in the woods my big ATV can't go, and a lot more quietly!
Primary problem this trike has alwasys had is that it will not run unless the choke is fully "On", cold natured on start-up, boggy in the mid-range, and plugs stay black and foul out after running a while.
Carb cleaned multiple times and adjusted every way I could find on prev. 3ww postings, filters clean, valves verified at 0.003 in., needle valve tried up and down in slots, new foam on air filter (tried without foam, too), timing rechecked, and whatever else I could think of except bowing before it!
Muffler is shot, but has no restriction - too many leaks! (Getting a replacement)
I do not know the proper gap for the CDI. The book I have doesn;t even mention CDI boxes.
ANY help would be greatly appreciated!!!

How is the air cleaner assembly? I know we had one that acted the same way and we found the "snoggle" tube that is on the back side of the air box ( inside the frame ) was disconnected. We connected it and it ran great. The snoggle tube works to slightly restrict the air flow. This causes more gas to be sucked from the carb ( some what like the choke ).
Hope it helps

I know you said you cleaned the carb, but my money is on the chance you missed a spot. Been there, done that. You must have missed the idle feed circuit. Use the wire from a twist tie, to snake through all the passages. Soak the carb in cleaner first, to loosen up the stuff.

Or you can take your carb to a shop, if they have a cleaning machine, and let them do it.

Carb soaking as we speak! I would have sworn it was clean, and I put (cheap) Lawn mower type fuel filters on main and reserve lines, BUT there is a layer of gunk back in the bottom of the bowl. Snoggle tube is in place and open. I'll let ya know how it comes out. Really appreciate the assist!

Soaking it only makes it perrty... Gotta remove every jet, soak them in real carb cleaner and blast every hole with air to get it right.

NOTHING else will clean it enough

IT LIVES!!!! Pulled rope a couple of times with the choke on out of habit - nuthin' -but cranked first pull with choke off! Got my idle set, revs quick, no bogging, returns to idle. Just gotta get it out in the swamp first on next week and give it a run.
Thanks a bunch for all the help!
Oh, River Rat -- saw the Redneck disc lathe! Gonna have to use that idea myself when I get to that part.
Thanks again, I'm sure I'll be back for more Q & A as the project goes on!
