restoring OEM gas tank

I am wanting to restore the gas tank on a newly aquired 1982 honda 110. Am I better off sanding, prime, and repainting the old one (it has minimal rust) or just buying a new plastic one ($100+)?

restore it, itll be cooler if you can say you restored it, itll look nice too.
