Just started my reassembly of my project since early spring. First I disassembled the whole bike after buying it off ebay last year which actually was in good condition, but i knew after seeing it I would restore it. Nothing like a mint condition 250R I say!! :w00t:
So far its really been fun restoring the bike and its coming along nicely. Just finished painting the frame and motor and have started the fun part...reassembly:p
Btw, if anyone is trying to match up their Honda frame I found the perfect color match, 2006 GM Super Red...its a very close match to factory red, really hard to tell difference if any! I still need to shoot the paint on the rear swinger so I'll post more pics later. Just wish I had more time to spend on getting it done, but I figure not rush it and do it right the first time.

looks great man keep up the work! Super red is very good match. Used it on my SX gas tank. ALOT cheaper than the honda paint. I think i paid $50 something a pint?

Looks awesome! Keep the pics comming! You know how we all like those. :pics:
What did you paint the motor with? Looks real good.
Btw, what brand of paint would that super red be? PPG?

Thanks for the comments guys. The paint on the engine is a Dupli-color DE 1651 Cast Coat Iron in a spray can. Its actually a high heat engine type paint so should hold up well. Only exception I did over stock on the engine was not paint the clutch cover cap area and left crankcase cover as seen in the pics since those areas are prone to wear more than others. Besides the polished areas look pretty trick too.
I'll have to look up that type of paint I used on the frame for you tri-z_250R. I'll let you know tonight.

VERY, VERY nice job. You're off to a great start. This winter I'll be restoring my

You probably could get the Super Red in PPG, just go to your local auto paint dealer (I used Napa Auto store) and have them mix up 2005/2006 chevy super red in Acrylic Enamel, as they may have other brands available too. Its a one coat system so no need for clearcoating. I would recommend mixing in hardner with the enamel though for extra durability. I just bought a pint of red and it did the frame and all my other pieces too.
I will be going back to the paint shop again here soon to match up the Gold that i need for the swinger.
hondared, good luck with your restoration too, if I can help you out in any way just PM me. I've learn alot in this forum already with ideas I've seen and read about. An example was polishing my fork tubes, found a thread just on repolishing your fork tubes...what a difference that made! wow!:p
.....but it was alot of work...LOL!

Looks great!!!
What are you using for bolts?? Are those allen heads in the motor and motor mount? Where did you get them.?
I'm trying to find a good bolt kit for my 85

I'm trying to find a good bolt kit for my 85
There's a guy on Ebay selling stainless steel bolt kits for all the popular ATC's. If you use them remember to use loctite as well.

Yes, you will find them on ebay but only get the most complete and high quality kit from Motorsports fasteners. All bolts are complete and individually packaged so there is no guess work where they go, but do what RedRider suggested, use locktite on most. Some of the bolts included already have the nylon inserts for helping to lock especially on the motor mounts, thanks for the comments btw!

Hey guys, have a question about a part that I was going to order but found out it is discontinued. I even checked on Bike Bandits site and still is not available anymore. Its a sleeve that mounts on the front axle and sits inside the rotor.
I still have my original but its a little worn to fit the OD of the axle. Seems to be just a little bit of play, will this hurt any to run it that way? Anyone know where i can get a replacement?
Check out the pic to see what part I'm talking about, its labeled part #3 on diagram, thanks!!

I think they have a super red in a spray paint can I got from auto parts store. Thats what I used on my frame. It is an excellent match.

Well i got some more work done to my 250R. I know...I know, I'm slow but just taking my time to do it right the first time.
First I Finished assembly of the Front end fork tubes, brakes and handlebar area. Best of all I installed a Lone Star axle carrier in the swingarm for added strength. Speaking of the swinger I finally found a matching Gold that I needed to paint it, wasn't easy though:D I had to go through 2 books of colors at the local paint shop before I found what I thought looked really close and best of all got it mixed in acrylic enamel just as the frame paint was.
Next I had to strip all the paint off the rear axles since they were painted black when i bought the bike, and I mean everything was painted black in the rear of the bike, what a mess I might add... but finally I finished cleaning, primed and painted which looks a whole lot better now. For that extra added touch, polished the axles and clear coated for protection against the elements and finally new decals. Next in line to finish installing the rear shock area and brakes. So far its really been a good project and what a difference so far! :p
I'll update more later

Thanks! for the motor color I used Dupli-color's Engine Enamel DE 1651 Cast Coat Iron. You can find this in a spray can. Best match I could find out of a spray can to match 86's stock color.

Been working on my project some more and coming along nicely, best of all almost done!!.:w00t: Just today I worked more on the rear fender sanding out all the scratches..Boy is that work!! Been working on that fender for about 2 weeks now and just started using the final 2000 grit, next I will polish it out with my buffing wheel to get the luster back. Should turn out good and best of all save me from having to dish out an additional $300 for a new one! Ouch! I'll have to take some pics of before and after when I finish, but meanwhile you can check out what I've accomplished so far the past couple of months working here and there on it...cant wait to ride this beast after all the work!:D
All I have to get to really finish off the project now is my rear wheels. Have those on order, some Douglas red label rims with Dunlop KT335's. I have the Douglas that I finished polishing on the front if you remember seeing my thread sometime back. You guys really gave me some good advise on wheel polishing and the results where outstanding , check that thread out here if you forget http://www.3wheelerworldforums.com/showthread.php?t=63582
Using the stock pipe for a while, since mostly what I'll be riding is wooded trails, but may put the FMF back on later:cool: Oh yeah check out the rear swingarm skidplate, I cleaned that up and decided to polish that too but it looked too shiny after it was done so i decided to shoot some clear on it....Exactly the look I wanted! matched the top grab bar EXACTLY! That came by surprise :D
I'll post more pics later.....
