Hi after selling my 1985 honda atc250sx I have really missed ridding a three wheeler. So today I was on craigslist and I found a listing for a 1985 atc250r parts. I contacted the guy and he said that it was an almost complete bike that his buddy took apart and then lost interest in. He said take everything for $100. I ended up getting it all for $60 but this thing is going to need a lot of work. Also it is not a 1985 because it is air cooler. The engine is stamped TB06E and under that it is stamped 2307629 or 2307621. It is hard to tell. The guy said he thought it was a 1985 but I would say it is a 1981-1984. Let me know what you think. I am goint to go download the pictures from my camera and then post them for everybody to see and comment on.

if it has a drum rear brake its a 1981 if it has a wide front tire and a straight up and down rear shock its a 1981-82 if it has an 11 inch rim and a skinny front trire and a layed down rear shock its a 83-84 hope that helps

That was the asking price. I got it for $60 because I told the guy he got me all excited when I thought it was going to be a 1985.

Looks to be 83/84 because of the front end design.

I need a coil, head gasket, base cyliner gasket, piston rings, and maybe some nuts and bolts just to get it started. If anybody has a coil for this bike let me know. Is there a diference between a 1983 and 1984 coil?

I will also need the front fender, headlight or number plate, the rear wheels are wrecked but I may have some that will fit, the rear brake pedal is missing and the brake actuator seems to be looked up, the front caliper is missing also, and I need a complete exhaust system. I need a lot of stuff. If you have anything let me know.

I want to figure out exactly what year it is so I can start looking for parts.

That is painted. It looks like someone painted right over the original red. I have another one that is not painted that I will be putting on.

I dont have a coil but either year will work, also a 200x caliper will work up front as well, I have 2 sets of rims I can sell you, and a original gold front rim/tire in great shape (looks like yours is fine)

for the head light assy (everything) $50 the shroud has a minor crack but its not that noticable

fender oem minro crack were it mounts, but still very ridable $15

rear wheels 8x8 polished gbc's $40
gold oem 9x8's $50 without tires with tires (kenda scorpian 20x11x9 almost new $100 with the tires on there as well)

let me know if any of this tickles your fancie

All of that stuff you have sounds good. I think I am just going to wait untill I make sure this thing clicks through all the gears before I start spending money on it but I think I will be buying some stuff from you soon. Send me some pictures when you get a chance. I thought I had it down in first but after going up to fifth gear I seemed to have trouble getting back bellow neutral. I am going to play with it tomorrow.

yes, the linkage is more curved on the 84 according to the repair manual. Other than that I don't think there's many other major differences between 1983 and 1984.

Hi I got it to run through all of the gear but I ran into problems when I tried putting the piston in the cylinder. The piston with no rings on it will not fit. I called up the guy I got this stuff from and he said that they had a parts bike and that the cylinder I have is probably off of the parts bike. I looks to me like the cylinder and head have a bit of red paint on them. So I am thinking that the cylinder and head are from a 1981 or 1982 engine. The guy I got everything from says he has gotten into contact with his buddy who took all of the parts off. So they are going to try to find all of the missing parts.

thats cool that that guy is helping looking for the other parts, I woudnt be to worried pistons and a bore isnt that expensive for one of those motors

The guy I got all the three wheeler off of is really cool. I was talking to him lastnight and he seemed prity ceratain that his friend who was the owner of this bike is good to get the part for me from his mothers house.

If I go the get this cylinder bored out do they have to put that coating back on the cylinder. I forget what that stuff is called. I think it is nakasil or something like that. I know there is a machine shop that is close to my house but would have to see how much it would be to have the work done. Does anybody know what a good price would be for this type of work?

I found a good set of d.i.d. aluminum rim and tires in the shed. I actually got them at a garage sale about a week ago for $30. The guy told be they would fit on my blaster. I didn't even get a chance to try them that yet but I can see the blaster bolt pattern looks to be much smaller. This guy said they were off of a 1989 warrior but they fit on the atc250r with no problems. I just mounted the tires and took some pictures. The tires have blugs in them and the rims are nice and straight. I wish they were gold but beggers can't be choosers.

I took apart the clutch pack last night because the clutch was not working. The plates were stuck together because the engine has been sitting. When I went to put it back together I realized that each friction plate has a little notch in it. Is this to ballance the clutch assembly. Do these notches have to face in or out. Should they all be lined up. Is there a special mark on the clutch basket the tells you where to line the notch up with?

I am going to post some pictures of the wheels and tires.

no nakasil needed kawasakis had that 40-60 is average for boring a cyl make sure they bore it with the correct clearance for the piston and rings as there needs to be more clearance for the air cooled motos, those warrior wheels will not fit if they came off a warrior a blaster pattern is 4x100 warrior is 4x115 and honda is 4x110 but the blaster hubs will go on that axle same with 400ex hubs wich will give you some extra width, you need to toss the friction plates and get some new ones

Yea I am sure you are right but that dude that I got the wheels and tires off of was knocking down beers so I don't think he knew what he was selling. All I know is that the rims and tires were cheep and they do fit on the hubs because I test fitted them today. Why do you think I should replace the clutch plates? They look good and the friction plates are not that worn out. I did see new clutch plates really cheap on ebay though. I think they were about $30.

I just painted that tank and I like the way it came out. I will take better picture of everything tomorrow. I have and extra set of steel rims from my very well missed 1985 honda atc250sx. The bolt pattern was really close but the rim would not go on all of the way. I think I have one extra hub for that wheel too. I do not know if that will fit on the 250r axle because the 250sx uses a totally different type of axle. I am getting two disassembled blasters without engines so I will have the blaster hubs. I will also have the rims and tires and I already have two rear blaster rims and tires. I think I will be selling most of the blaster parts so if anybody needs anything let me know.

if those hubs and wheels fit keep'em! just replace the clutch plates, they can look good all day long but not work worth a flip I put in that 30 dollar set from ebay in my 300 and they feal good and work well, and if those blasters have any white decent plastic I may trade you for plastic for plastic and a set of factory heal guards, let me know!

Those look to be 300EX/400EX wheels and tires, the aluminum ones I mean. Good deal for 30 bux! WHy can't I find the really good deals like that? lol

Looks like it is coming together nicely. Pick up some used 400EX hubs to go with those wheels and you'd be all set.

When you say that the clutch plates won't work worth a flip do you mean the clutch will slip or it just won't work. I was figuring that I would wait till I get the engine going and see how the clutch works and go from there. I know that the blaster fenders are white and are in good shape. What plastics would you want to trade me. I only have one heal guard on my blaster and that one is busted up bad so I would be interested in them. Are you interested in any other blaster parts.

I was wondering about your 1983 atc300r. Did you use the factory kit that is pictured in the old brochure or did you just have the cylinder bored over? What piston did you use? I may be interested in doing that to mine.

SYKO
07-18-2007, 11:30 PM
its a hondaline 300 kit, it is a true factory big bore kit, not the cheapest big bore around to do, pistons are amost non existant but if you find a cylinder/head you can send it off for the cylinder mod and differnt piston but that will set you back about 500 plus whatever you pay for the cyl/head, keep what you got you will be plenty happy with it, save your coins and one day get the 300 stuf, as for the clutch anything sitting that long apart its hit and miss with the clutch plates, I would just pony up the bucks for new ones to be safe, and the blaster parts I would like the rear fender, I will trade you for my 83 front fender and headlight assy (assuming by the pics you dont have any) there not perfect but look very good and for the heal guards I was talking about the metal plates that mount to the pegs not the plastic that runs to the fenders thats about it for blaster parts as I have nothing wrong with anything else on this one well.....possibly the shocks as well as these are worn way out. pm some details if interested man.

I put the wheels and tires on the 250r today and then I tried throwing the bottom end of the engine in the frame. No matter how I turned it I could not get it it. Is there some kind of engine mount bracket that I am missing? Also take a look at the picture of the bottom of the cylinder where the four bolts go through. Two out of four of the holes have a peice broken off.
