I'm in the middle of tearing apart my SX to restore it, and I'm having trouble getting the right hub off the axle. I did a search, and it seems this isn't an uncommon problem. I tried soaking it in PB Blaster, heating it and trying to remove it with a 3 jaw-puller, but no luck. So I figured I'd just take the axle out and take it to a machine shop to be pressed out. Here are some pics of what I've taken off the rear end. Shouldn't the axle just slide out from the right hand side? I'm beating it from the left with a rubber mallet and it hasn't budged. I've taken off the left hub, hub spacer and bearing cover. Any help would be appreciated.

Makes sense, and that's what I was afraid of. Can't get the brake assembly off without getting the hub off Dammit

Road Racer. try doing this - it worked for me. Get a piece of steel plate - 1/4 inch will do. Drill 2 outside holes that will slip over the wheel studs - and the re-install the lugs. the center hole should be bigger. Use a bolt and a nut. Place the nut on the inside and run the bolt inwards toward the hub. Put a wrench on the nut and use an air impact to force the bolt inward while holding onto the nut with a wrench - thus pulling the hub off. This will in effect work as a puller - and the air impact should have the muscle to get the job done.

Good idea. I'll have to give that a try. Thanks!

This is a great example of why the 85 rears are junk. That brake drum lets water in everywhere and it seizes and ruins everything.

There is a nice 86 rear on EBAY for decent coin right now, last I knew.... Get the whole assembley if you can..
