I wouldn't use RTV on a head gasket. I've had good results with copper spray. Have you checked to see that both surfaces are perfectly flat?

well the cylinder just had a 310 sleeve put in and cylinder looked to be surfaced and the head look straigh but that may be it its a cool head so i dont no if i should surface it or not.

i have the same problem on my 85 250r. It'll leak one day and not the next. It's mainly at the front of the head too like you stated  . It has a pro design cool head with a brand new gasket and still leaks every now and then.

its the non oring type cool head and the weird thing is its not leaking from between the cylinder and head but coming up through the studs then leaking out. no where else but coming up through the front 3 studs. i think you guys were thinking it was leaking between the cylinder and head. once again thatsa not where its leaking.

Are you running the copper washers underneath each acorn nut?

i have the stainless 450-500 peice bolt kit for it it has regular stainless nuts with stainless warshers.
I just had my sleeve bored on my last build. When they did this, my sleeve somehow sunk a couple thou. Mine leaked when I first put it together. Pulled it about, and flattend the top of the cylinder and my problem was cured.

ic ic dang this is really starting to bug me i mean you would think it would leak between the head and cylinder but no its coming from the stud out the top this is very baffling:wondering
I miss read you. Please disregard my last two post. My leak was between the cylinder and the head.
I would try some thread sealant or rtv if I were in your shoes.

i have the stainless 450-500 peice bolt kit for it it has regular stainless nuts with stainless warshers.Stainless steel is a very hard metal & therefore won't squish much when you torque the head nuts down. Copper is a lot softer & will squish down. I know cool heads come with copper washers that are supposed to be used between the head & the nuts. Another possible problem is the fact that you're using a regular nut (with a hole all the way through it) rather than an acorn nut, which is solid on top. Most likely it is only leaking from the front studs because, with the way the engine is mounted, the front studs are lower than the back studs. If your engine were mounted completely level, it would probably be leaking from all of the studs.
Also, what type of head gasket are you using? The paper ATC type, or the metal shim CR type? If you're using the metal shim CR type, Pro-Design recommends you use a "thin fingerprint film sealant such as 3-bond #1211" to prevent water drips. I hope you get your cylinder drooling problem fixed.

using the paper 250r style. i baught my cool head with 19cc dome used for $85 so all i got was the head and dome. i dont really want to use RTV or and other gasket sealer goop unless i actually have to i will go to the hardware store and see if i can get some copper warshers. thanks guys.
