200x Wont Start

hello. i just bought a 200x. it ran fine last weekend now it wont fire. it does smoke and burn oil but it stilll ran. it get spark not sure if its hot enough gets fuel. dont know if its low on compression or what. cleaned the carb, new plug, new fuel. where should i start? need to get it going by next weekend. any help is greatly apprecieated. by the way im new here.

check the kill buttons-
did you clean the pilot jet?
is it getting spark to the plug? try a new plug-

Get a compression guage from an auto parts store for about $15 and check your compression. Thats the first thing I would do.
Your last ride might have done it in. Maybe time for a top end rebuild. So check the compression to rule this out first.

same thing happened to me a while back, when I unloaded my bike from the truck, I let the front end drop to the ground.... that was a great enough force to jar the plug boot loose from its attatchment to the wire itself (its twist on) and I wasnt getting enough spark through it. you might try that.

it gets spark and its a new plug. the local motorcycle shop told me to check the valve clearance with feeler gauges and also the compresssion. so those are what im down to. what is a good compression reading for this bike? what is involved with a top end rebuild? thanks guys!!!!

i tried to check valve clearances but not sure on how to do it. it doesnt seem easy to put a feeler guage thru the holes in the valve cover. got a compression guage from the auto parts store and it didnt come with a reducer that would thread into the plug hole so i wasnt able to check it. what the easiet way to check the valves as well as timing or anything else that could be wrong. thanks

i got it to fire up twice then let it sit for a while then no fire. what would cause the sparatic fire?

bad gass. clogged carb?

checked the air filter yet? may be clogged need cleaned.

filter and carb are good. gas is a week old put it in last weekend. it gets gas and spark. where can i get a compression tester that will thread into the plug hole. the one from the auto parts store was way to big?

did you ask the auto store if they sell a reducer? take your compression tester and spark plug in and see if they can match one up.

yeah they didnt have anything. i just put a tester on the coil and i think it is bad. its not letting enough current thru it. i have one coming but i got plans to ride sunday and i dont think it will be here in time so i might just buy a new one and have a spare. i paid 15 bucks for hte coil and plug wire so i dont think im getting hurt on the deal.
