View Full Version : starting to fully restore my 250r

well shes a bare frame

i just took the frame out of a hot tank to strip all the paint washed it and wow i found alot of surface rust so i took the wire wheel to it and put the first caot of paint on it

i also painted my front and rear calipers

the color scheme is going to be black and yellow

yellow frame and accessories and black tank and plastics

well a cool thing i found out my pipe is an old school dg pipe its stamped on the hanger dg perf.

wonder what else i will find

Just an observation I've learned in my build. Take your estimated cost figure... double it. Take your estimated time figure.... triple it. :naughty:

but it is starting to look good

how do i take the spring off of the rear shock? do i have to compress it or can i just unscrew the ride hight adjustment bolts ?

well here is the resivoir for the rear brake all pretty lol

only one problem with the resivoir is i cant get the nitrogen fill port cap off

What are you using to polish this stuff with? That looks almost chrome-like. Is that aluminum?

yes its aluminum and im using 2 diffent hard compound sticks and a buffer on a drill a med. grit and a ultra fine grit stick

crap well i took my front shocks off an when i took the boots off i knowticed the shocks are bent pretty good to

anyone have some cheap shocks for sell in good condition?

anyone have some cheap shocks for sell in good condition?Take those forks to a machine shop.They can starighten them for 20-40 bucks.Bike looks good

already got new ones for 32 dollars


also it now is registered till 09 and i got the nitrogen shock filled for 10 dollars

so now i will need new front fork boots, e-brake block off, and anything else i can think of

the only thing i am having a problem with is the tank i cant seem to put clear over the color
it keeps wrinkling the paint

well heres my second attempt at the tank
took it completely down to bare metal did the body work and the pic is after 2 coats of primer and the first coat of black i am going to do a coat of yellow next on the top of the tank then clear i hope it all goes well

Wow that is going to be awesome! will you be running a black/yellow headlight or a black/yellow numberplate? All i see otherwise is that front tire that I would change!

well here is the latest pic with it almost complete

and for the front i am going to be running an 8" hella light then later i am switching to dual hid (flood and spot)

and im not changing the front tire i like it

looks good! wow! im surprised how small the 250 motor is compared to the 300 motor, you should put a 85-86 shroud on it! that would be sweet!
