View Full Version : strange 350x question

I recently barrel rolled my 350x twice in NH. Both times I landed hard on my right side. The bars were the first to hit the ground.

Now...it pulls to the left. I pull all of the levers and such off, and the bars are straight, the triples are good, but the tire is slightly to the left when the steering stops are perfectly alinged in the center. The oddest part is that the fender is straight ahead while the tire is not.

Is there a chance that the forks twisted slightly and if i just loosen the pinch bolts and slide them around a little that it will go back? I know the forks have a slight bend to them already...

What can make my fender be straight but the wheel be all off center?

Thanks

Mike

Axle could be bent.

Could be the axle.........also the forks.
If they are only slightly bent, you may get away with turning them in the tree clamps.
I've done it on street bikes before. Sometimes they just turn in the clamps, and you get lucky.

Oh, and it might also be that you bent one of the fork legs down below the bottom triple clamp. That would make the fender straight but the wheel crooked.

are bent axles common? Ive never heard of a bent front axle...

Im going out there now to try to slide the forks around. If that doesnt help it, ill pull the axle and roll it on cement and see what happens.

Thanks guys

The rim itself could also be bent.

ok well the wheels turns fine on the axle, so thats out. The rim doesnt wobble so thats out.

I turned the forks in the triples and played with them and the wheel straightened out. Only downside now is that the forks dont return all the way up and sound nice and crunchy.

So its time for some new forks.

Thansk for your help

Ugh, you bent it bad enough to make the inside tube hit the outside? Ouch.

If your forks aren't bent too too bad it's possible to straighten 'em out on a press, I slammed into a raptor wot in 5th & bent both pretty bad, a buddy took them & pressed them out & they worked fine. Good luck Mike, TGG.................

Put the frame on a stand, loosen all your fork pinch bolts. GENTLY tap 4 screwdrivers in each slot of the fork clamps, just enough that the tube will spin. Spin the tube and watch the lower leg, if it's pulling it will show up easily...
