hey ya'll,
recently decided to give the brakes a going through. front assembly was fairly easy even with the extra work. wouldn't ya now it that the rear is the one being stubborn. the clymer manual shows a drum assembly removeable only with center axle nut. instructions describe same. however, mine also has two large phillips screws in between the wheel studs. the da*n drum will not budge with the axle nut loose and brake adjuster backed off. tried tapping with rubber malet to no avail. thinking about getting hold of an impact driver to loosen the screws but am wondering if the hub and drum should come off together as 1 piece or which is better approach. is it probably rusted on? if so, any suggestions? currently soaking with WD-40.

thanks

arkantrike, i run into the same thing when i done my 250es (bigred)brakes. seems (it's been awhile) like i was following the book along but it didn't show those phillips screw's either. just re-read the clymers manual + still didn't see it.
anyway,,, mine were in there so long i ended up drilling the heads off so i could remove the brake hub too get to the brakes. i know for a fact i never re-done those phillip screws either and brakes work good + tire ain't fell off either.

IMPACT DRIVER- take the 2 phillips head out w/ it. I use it to put them back also. Don't think wheel will fall off :D, I just always put them back. Drum should come off after those are removed. Didn't see anything in my Clymer either. :?

WD-40 is a WIMPS oil.(And I used to be a WD-40 guy). Go down to your local auto parts store(NAPA carries it here) and buy some PB B'LASTER. Works great.
