Hey
Im thinking about building a Honda 200X, but i need some advice on a few things. It appears the 86 is a 6 speed, and the 85 and below is a 5 speed. Can you still use the 85 and below top ends, cranks, forks, rear end, hubs, etc off an 85 or below on an 86? or just what is compatable and what isnt. The reason I ask is i want to try and keep this as inexpensive as possible..I plan on doing a great restoration, its just where I live the 200X's are very rare as it is so and if i built an 86 id just limit myself again to the availabilty of parts (shipping from the south/south western united states is very expensive. What is the best over all preformance exhaust for your dollar? I see alot of people with DG and Cobra. Can you go bigger with the carbs? or swap parts from XR200's .

I basically need to know everything there is about the 200X's.

Thanks, when i get this project started I plan on sending it to the mods and putting it on the restoration page.

forks are even slightly different, the older ones are about 1'' shorter than the 86s.

i herd that extra gear doesn't really do much good. but that is just hear say. besides you can always mix and match sprockets. have fun with the build. im still building my auto x.

if i were to build a 200x i would do an 83-85 because their parts are not as rare as the 86-87's. but the 86-87 have more performance. for an exhaust i would go with dg because i heard their better then cobra, which i heard is junk. check out www.denniskirk.com for some parts or http://www.powroll.com/P_HONDA_ATC200X.htm for performance parts for the 83-85 200x's. have fun and keep us updated.

Oh now i understand. I have one 85 fork on my 200x (right side) Its a tiny bit shorter than the stock 86 ones, and it seems to have a different texture and shape.

I think Cobra and DG are at the same level... Both too loud but lots of topend gains. Supertrapp is a great aftermarket to get on anything, if you can find one or adapt something....
