View Full Version : cobra exhaust on 185s
Does anyone have any experience with the cobra exhaust quiet series on a 1982 185s. I ordered one through my local dealer and it did not fit. I told them this, but they said it was the right one, They also said that they had a rep somewhere who had a lot of experience with 3 wheelers and he recommended this one himself. He said I would have the best luck with the cobra exhaust.
So I brought my 3 wheeler to my local dealer and shown them how it did not fit. The parts guy agreed with me and decided to order it again, thinking maybe the wrong one was put in the box. I got it home today and it is the same pipe. Still does not fit. I could get it to fit with some major modifications, but the rep guy said it should bolt right in!?!
Anyways, what should I do?

i put one on my 200 it fit kinda weird too but it fit. go to their website and look up your model and it will give the application numbers and instructions. I think yours and mine are the same. I had to connect the pipe behind the frame then attach it to the head.
I went to their website but they only gave me directions for the mounting bracket. So I emailed them. Can anyone else offer some advice?
Olive 123, I can see what you mean by mounting it from behind the frame but that still would not work for me. When I connect the headpipe to the engine and fit the muffler through the frame it is pointed upwards at the end. There has to be an easier way to do this.

i just put one on my 110 a few minutes ago. the fit sucked to say the least. i had to sawzall a good inch off the pipe that fits into the muffler because the muffler would hit a pipe thing on the back of my trike. After I cut it, it fit ok, but i need to drill a hole into my trike to bolt the muffler to it, and the muffler BARELY will push up against the side because it's too big and gets caught on my brake drum cover. Sounds pretty damn loud though!
Hey!! Last night I finally figured out how it will fit on my 185s!! :-D But now I feel like an idiot. I was trying to fit it where the stock muffler ran, which is in the frame right down the middle. But the cobra exhaust is supposed to fit off to the right of the trike and mount on to the part of the frame near the luggage bars.
Now for another question. Do I need some type of copper o-ring between the headpipe and the engine? Also, where the headpipe connects to the muffler, do I just push it on or is there some sort of glue or something to hold it on more permanently?

There should be a clamp on the silencer I think.
