Someone explain to me why you would want to put a S motor in an X ?
It sounds like a step backward to me.

it puts a semi-automatic motor inside a suspended frame with hydraulic disc brakes.

Great for someone who doesnt know how to drive a 5 speed and is safer due to having full suspension and disc brakes

If you don't have a X motor a S motor is cheaper.

and they are kinda fun, cheap, and easy to build.

This is backwards! In the 80's everyone wanted to go the other way. I know that most of the guys on the board are younger than the trikes they own but it was gay to have an auto, unless it was your first trike or you were old and wanted to go and change the water in the field.

Performance was a manual clutch! That's why everyone that wanted more performance, wanted to get rid of a auto that sliped. Besides no one made a "high-performance" clutch for a 185S. I can see the idea behind an auto-X but for the cost why not just get a replacement X motor or do a rebuild?

Better for the wife who is not very good with a clutch.

Also - tons of fun in tight woods trails - no need to be clutching all the time.

I know some hardcore dirtbike guys who do this conversion on their new YZs for hare scrambles - (put an auto clutch in that is). It is not really a backwards move - just something different!

I love riding Shelly's Auto-X - and to tell the truth - there is not that much of a power difference between the 200S motor and the 200X motor in stock form.

It creates the "lil brother" of the other lazy mans trike - ATC250SX. Sometimes it's fun to not have to pull in a clutch just to switch gears, one handed cruising along....

I see your point as a modern version but if my old Lady wanted to go riding with me I would fit her in a nice auto if need be . But myself, ahewhewew ... Clear the throat,LOL,I guess if the kid's wanna ride auto's .. so B it !!

im getting this feeling that auto x's are like mopeds. everyone wants to ride one but nobody will admit it. i still like the manual allot more but i dont have the money to get a x engine so im using the s engine out of my 84 200s. plus the auto x fits my kinda riding.
