More details are needed to accurately figure out the problem.
How does the shifter feel when up shifting?
How does the shifter feel when down shifting?
Does it shift properly but just does it hard?
What have you done to the machine ( motor ) since you got it?

The more input you give us, the faster we can help you.

well it feels hard and crunchy it wont return to center

and when it started doing this i hadnt done one thing to the bike it just went from shifting perfectly and being able to put it in reverse to this

since then i have had the stator cover off

It sounds to me like it's one of these:
the shifter drum bolt may have came loose or broken off
The internal shifter assembly may have broken.
Here is a thread that has more information about what I am mentioning:

Hope it helps

well i know that when i took the stator cover off i checked the linkage i could get to and it all looked alright and i did tighten down the post thing cause it was loose but i still feels very hard to shift and when i move the shifter it doesnt change anything it refuses to roll backwards but if i push it forwards it sounds as if gears are grinding should i take the otherside off and see if i can see something wrong?

also when i turn the bike on my neutral light is on
