I picked this up at 5:30 this morning. I found it on Minn craigslist. It has a brand new jug and hot rod and was gone through by a shop. All new gaskets everywhere. It needs a few things but the price was RIGHT, $475.00. I had to buy it!! It seems like the jetting is real fat right now, it kinda falls on its face in the top end. Any suggestions on where to start. Also on a different subject, Storz Performance has the rear Tiger-Grimeca calipers in stock. I got my new one today!

Yeah, it looks like a" garage" special. They cut the original swingarm and put a smaller piece inside and welded it back up.

For 475 defiently can't go wrong!
As for the top end, take apart the carb, clean it out and check the jetting
Dammit!

I plan on checking everything over when I get time. I did not know it has a 350X front end and a 200x headlight. I didnt need this R, but like most of you guys, Im sure, always look for a good deal on anything. I looked at the ad a dozen times before " I gotta buy that " went through my head.
Nice R!!!!!!!!!!
Time to clean that garage.:naughty:

I was just looking over this R and noticed that the lower end of the engine is kinda gray in color. But my other 85R is black. Is this a 86 engine? Also is the kicker different from the 85 to the 86?

It maybe an 88-89 trx engine I know they were grey and the front motor mount was a little different.

I'll have to get both of my Rs side by side and check out the many variations in this frankenstien trike.

From what I know, the 86 motors were grey, and the 85's were black.
Are you coming to TF? Ill give you a grand for it :naughty:

is the front a 350x or a 250r reversed?
Dammit!

is the front a 350x or a 250r reversed?
350x judging by the decreased rake and the 350x front fender (the bolt patterns don't match).
The motor is a 1986. You sure the whole thing isn't a 1986? Look for the letter G in the vin. Should be the 9th or 10th digit. It will be G for 1986 or F for 1985.

Its a 85. Also 3/85 on the right side. 350x front for sure. I am not coming to TF. Thats a more than generous offer and maybe we can figure something out.

If I remember correctly just ebcause it says 3/85 doesn't mean its an 85.. It should clearly say 1895 model or 1986 model above that.. Also yea the 86 motors are grey.. Hell it's a frankenstien that's for sure, but freaking sweet one! lol

I dont know what it is, the last few days deals have been all over. Im dealing on a 85 Tecate, nice shape $300.00. I will know more Saturday or Sunday. Also I passed up a 91 Honda CR 250-mint for $500.00.

I figured out why this R kinda sputtered at WOT. The jetting and carb checked out ok, but the airfilter looked good on the outside but was real wet with oil on the inside. What a major difference after I changed it. It was twice as responsive and was one of the faster Rs I have ever ridden. WOW!!
When water pumpers are tuned right with mods WATCH OUT!!!!!!!!!!

Sounds like a steal to me, hope you keep it to beat up on the trail and stash that tiger in the garage...

Ive got a pretty nice 85R that needs a few little things, so I might make this my rider untill someone else has to have it. As far as the Tigers staying in the garage, Im gonna ride the 250 on the ice and maybe a few passes down the road. I dont plan on beating them up. Usually the ice is easier on the machines than mud and dirt.

All the talk about pipes has got me wondering what kind I have on this R? Anyone know what kind this is? I had it off and did not see any stamp or name.

Thanks alot! I thought it was homemade, cause its kind of a crude looking pipe. I will have to clean it up a little.

Nice thing about 2 stroke pipes is every pipe has different seems and weld lines so they are easy to ID if you have the pics
