..I have one......never run, 100% new. Question is, will I have problems with the clutch since it has been sitting for 17+ years? Will I have any other problems.......think there is surface rust on the cylinder? Thanks.

I put a 350x crate motor into my 250x frame about 9 months ago. I have had zero problems but it's not rode much either. I'm sure a new clutch wouldn't hurt, was it stored with oil in it?

Honda put oil in the motor to test fire it. After the test fire, the motor was drained of the oil and put in storage, so there is a little oil left in the motor - not much though.

oh. :D
I would think you could ride it till it's obviouse you need to fix something. i.e. some rust on the cylinder, ride til it somkes or loses compression or clutch begins to slip. I wouldn't think it would hurt anything and you won't know what you really have to replace until something goes wrong. Well, atleast that's my approach, I could be wrong and it wouldn't be the first time. ;)

Kris check out my "crate motor" thread in the open forum on this very subject. it gives you all the things i've gone through with my "new" crate motor over the past 200 miles. these were all things i kinda expected with one of these motors but i am glad to report there has been no internal rusting on the parts. something i was also concerned about.
