Hey everyone, weekend is here! Time to go riding! I have a quick question. I have a 350X that I completely sunk trying to cross this creek by my house. I recently bought a 1981 200 trike and was going to try to cross it on that. Does anyone know if the 200 will float having the big baloon tires? Thanks in advance and have fun riding this weekend! I know I will!

ive done my fair share of creek riding and i learned to lean back and ezz the gas. the front will float and the rear will start to rise. i put a solid skid plate from front to back and it protected everything from racks and bolders. it also helped it float lol.

my dad still has our 81 200 and with the original tires on it we could float over anything. it gets a little tipsy when the back rises but it's pretty fun.

Years ago, a friend of mine rigged up dual rear tires on his 110 and inflated the crap out of his front tire. He could float across small ponds, but there was still a stability issue. On more than one occasion he tipped. He later bought a Honda Foreman and outfitted it with duals on all 4 corners. It did a little better, but it too was unstable. Also, a big problem was lack of propulsion while floating. He burned a lot of fuel to go hardly anywhere.

mine floats fine all stock, but not with me on it. its just to tippy. the trick seems to be swimming while its off and pulling it behind me when the waters deep.

I would imagine the weight of the rider would play a pretty big part in this matter.

When my 110 ran a while ago, I tested it through a small pond that was about 4' deep. I wedged and strapped 2 basketballs up near the tank and frame which helped it stay floating. But yeah it is unstable, you have to get off and walk it most of the way unless you go fast. Then you will sort of float for a minute then it will tip over. Maybe if you had some really big and wide sand paddles it would float and move but with stock knobbies its not that great. Just what you would expect with 22x11x8 balloon tires on a light machine.

I have been riding my entire life and probably owned atleast 30 machines between bikes, trikes, and two quads (I guess that old moto 4 100 wasnt the last quad id ever own!). Not a single one of these machines floated, be they the 250r or 450r i currently own, or my first bike, a 200s with fat balloon tires. Granted, I never really tried anything other then my typical trail setups. I have always thought boats were for floating, trucks were for bogging, and trikes were for flying but to each his own ;)

The 250r and 450r have enough power to watercross and most of the other bikes had enough motor to keep some flotation if you kept the tires spinning in thick mud, but again...never just hopped off a machine and seen it float in the middle of standing water. I think its a myth.

i heard that the smaller 90's, 110's, and 125's float. here is a video, its 9 minutes long, but in the last 30 seconds it shows you a floating atc with a rider on it. http://youtube.com/watch?v=qjNSHmfgyxc

My 200M would float across lakes.

My 200M will do the same. Its really easy to get unstuck when in water. Just hop off and it rises to the top!

I owned an 83 ATC200, and I atill own a 110 85' that floated.
I found out the hard way when I was crossing a river, that I always clrossed, but the rain had made the water higher, and I did not notice. But I sure notived when I started floating down stream, and at the time, all I could think about was, what was my father going to say when I floated passed him on the dock, if I didn't make it out.

At the time I wasn't supposed to be where I was. It was like 20+ years ago.

When we went mudding ( a lot) at the end, we would just go full bore off the dock, into the lake, to wash off.

People are righ though, they float, but are hard to balance, and you will most likely fall off, if you are over 150lbs.

ATC 200s float upside down much better than right side up.
