Last night while I was reassembling the 200x, I stripped one of the internal threads on the top end of the motor that secures the bracket for the decompression cable. I was tightening to spec. but she let go on me. The bolt is fine, but stripped the insides and I was wondering how I should go about it. (The bolt secures the decomp. cable along with the topend cap to the cylinder head, the threads are stripped inside of the cylinder head, not the topend bolt itself). Should I re-tap it and heli-coil it, or should I leave the bolt in as it is now (still snug). If I do re-tap it, should I take it off of the cylinder or leave it on? I dont see how any shavings could get inside the motor if the internal thread whole is all that the shavings would ever be exposed to. Ill try to get some pics up tonight or tomorrow, hope I didnt confuse anyone! BTW This is on my 1986 200x motor....

Heli-coil it. You'll never have issues with it again.
I dont see how shavings could get inside the motor, its a whole on the exterior of the motor. Just dont go to deep.
Good luck.

hey, sometimes a little longer bolt with lock-tite will do the trick.

I have heard, keep in mind the operative word is heard, that you can fill the sides of the hole with JB and screw in a bolt coated with oil and then let dry. The oil will prevent the JB weld from sticking to the bolt and you can then back the bolt out of the hard JB weld.
I'd heli-coil personally, but the above is a quickie farmer fix.
