*EDIT* Ok so i happened upon an 85 70 locally is has the correct motor (shifts up) and fires/idles but bogs/dies when you touch the throttle. Busted plastics, zinger tank, needs bearing all around, but no smoke. It's 250.00 i wanted it for 200 because of the cost of the new tank/plastics/douglas wheels/blue seat cover, i figure i'm looking at close to 500 for aftermarket parts/powder coating for the frame and forks.*
I was wondering what the going rate is for a clean ATC70 and what to look for as far as things that go bad or need replaced, or if the motor has issues etc. I'm kind of looking for one because i think they are cool but i dont want to spend a fortune to get one that i may restore to keep i the corner, are any parts IMPOSSIBLE to find? will i pay a ton fto get certain things? You get the idea, any input would be appreciated, TC...

IMHO, a good clean ATC70 is worth $500. I prefer the 85s because they shift up, the rest ship down. before 81 (or so) they are three speeds, after they are 4 speeds.
The biggest thing to look for is a bent frame. The front end on those little guys is stronger than the frame, and with just a small hand brake lever, they tend to get run into things.
Look for the front fender being pushed into the motor, or front fender cut off, or turned over (short end to back), or gone altogether.
If you can take off the tank, the frame tube should be stright, not bending down to the front.

Thanks for the reply, i found one for 600.00 but i thought the price was a little too high. It'd have to be mint for that money from what i can tell...

nothing is hard to find other than a good seat pan or foam. but both can be had aftermarket. just search my posts. www.dratv.com has EVERYTHING imaginable for them. i just finished a resto and it looks killer. i still need to update my new pics with the new seat cover. again search my posts.

the 73-74 models are completely different then the 79 and up ones. Parts are alot harder to find for the 73-74s. Seat pans and recoils are the hardest part to get cheap on the newer 70s. Watch for a lot of rust in the tank, some rust through.

Let me say if you get 1 atc70, you will probably get more. Atc70s' are very versatile machines. They will haul around a rather large person, especially after consuming alcoholic beverages. They are great for tail gateing at football games. Can be a hit at neighborhood parties. Fun for the kids and the wife\girlfriend too. They have a diehard following and have been know to have large amounts of money spent on them, especailly in the quest to be fancier or faster. Any "restoration" costs money, as long as the trike does not have to be absolutely correct, you can make a very respectable rider on the cheap. atc70s' tend to lend themselves for fancy paint jobs and lots of chrome. You can buy large displacement replacement engines for under $400, 125-134cc's. You can have 4 spd manual clutch engines or you can have electric start automatics or almost anything in between. People have gone as far as putting modified 200x and 250r engines in them. If you are really crazy like some of us, you can have a suspensioned frame 70! But whatever you do, have fun. And once you start putting around on a 70, your friends will want them too. They can be very addicting. Good luck.

I just bought 2 last week,£175 the pair doing one std using all the best bits to sell and recoup some cash, and one modified.
Just had my first test blast today with a Ducar 125 electric start engine /manuel clutch bored to 60mm makes 161cc.................
Letting the clutch out changing into third, front wheel straight up again.See this is going to be some fun !!

Anyone have trouble with the keyway on the crankshaft? I was talking to a guy with a 81 i think and he said the crank needed to be worked because the timing jumped or something. Does this seem like a real story? How hard will it be to fix? Anyway its reasonably cheap and comes with a spare motor and some random parts...

updated with info, see first post for the whole deal but is this 85 worth 250? It needs plastics, tank, bearings, carb issues (idles but dies under throttle), and i want to clean it up/powdercoat some stuff...

Well worth it I'd say, I have three in my garage now. The 70s get ridden way more than my Tecate, 250R, Z, 350X or 500R!!!! Like mentioned above, the 70s are a blast and addicting. I love them things!

My family and I love our 2 70's. The kids ride them, my wife and I ride them. My buddies and I ride them. They are addicting though. Sounds like its a good deal.

Haha i was hoping that the 'go buy it' guys weren't on their way to Haspin. Thanks for the replies pics to come, as well as another 70 with too much money put into it. Well maybe not too much assuming its still there, i'm gonna keep the stock ignition and motor, TC...

Its probably worth the $250 but if it were me, i'd wait for a nice runner that doesnt need a bunch of stuff. typically they are 350-400 and in decent shape (tight and completely funtional) 500-600 for a low hour bike. Ive bought so many wheelers and i find being patient or spending a little more on a nicer bike from the start makes a MUCH easier situation.
