Where did that come from?

Is it just used by the 3WW wheel crowd on here or it pertains to any type of racing and is used by all motor sports of any kind?

What exactly does it mean?

Why are some memebers on here classified as that under their avatar?

It means they surf the forums too much and are posers rather then daily riders/weekend racers.

your an armchair racer when: your sitting in the recliner going "AWWWW HELLL!! I COULD HAVE ONE THAT RACE!!! WITH MY EYES CLOSED? knowing good and damn well if you were to go out on the track you would most likely turn yourself into a blood and asphalt slushy as soon as you got out there, kinda like a form of "backseat driver"

This might be a FUN thread!!

You might be an "arm chair racer" if:

You've ever talked about how fast you are but no-one has ever seen you on the track.

You've ever said "I'll definately be at the next race since I know everyone else is coming!"

You've ever said "I would race BUT, my (enter your trike here) isn't fast enough."

Dont all quads come standard with an Armrest? I mean isn't that what those Fenders and A-Arms up front are really for.. supporting the plushy velvet arm rest?

In all fairness I'll bet ALL of us talk much more then we ride.

I really don't like that the definition includes the word "poser". There may be a few poser dudes on here but overall everyones here to exchange valuble information about maintaining the trikes and it's perfectly normal to have a bit of humor thrown in all the time.

I guess it IS just humor to have it under your avatar and should not be taken serious, like I was starting to

I'm on several automotive racing forums and it's used a lot there too. it basically means someone is making assumptions based off of data they found or read rather than real life or factual expirence on that product, car, or what ever.

in short armchair racer means my car is faster than yours. when i get it finished it will do 9 sec 1/4 mile because it's going to do xxxx hp and torque.

THAT is an armchair racer or bench racing. Arm chair racer can also be called someone who really doens't do much racing but always knows how to tell others what they need to do to race and win.

example: yea my car is still not finished yet after 6 years, but hey I know what you neeed to do to win. if you do xxx then your sure to win. This doens't apply to peopel who have tons of racing expirence and are jsut in some downtime.

" This doens't apply to peopel who have tons of racing expirence and are just in some downtime. "

I guess that applies to 3WW member sykolincoln then, because lately he seems to know everything.

If you want to see Armchair Racing at it's best - show up at TF and see how many people actually race MX versus how many people talk about it!

Also - Max may have a funny definition for the term "Armchair Drinker"!!!!!!!!

Well correct me if I am wrong, but I didnt think trikefest was all about the races...(kinda seems that way now), but I thought it was a nice event where trikers from all over the world can come hang out, talk 3 wheelers and enjoy the company of people that have a passion for 3 wheelers and of course ride the local terrain. I think that is the reason I liked the earlier trikefests more cuz it wasnt so "structured". It also seems that we are having so many events, there wont be time to hang out and shoot the shoot (so to speak), as everyone would be busy with races and such. I dont know, maybe its just cuz I dont feel like racing anymore, and seems left out of everything since I dont race.

I guess whether I'm an armchair racer or not under that definition depends upon what the standard downtime is.

My last flattrack setup R was in '03, my last flattrack setup Z was in '02, but my last start at an organized event was in '87.....so that's a whole lot of downtime since my last checkered flag. Problem was with the R and Z that as soon as I got them ready, financial hardship hit and someone offered me my money back out of them.

Does that put me a rung below someone that has a recent season under their belt? Don't know....don't really care honestly. I'm just glad to see renewed interest in racing 3-wheelers be it MX, drag, or flattracking. I love to watch the vids, look at the pics, and read all I can about what folks are doing now in 3-wheeled competition while I'm getting mine together.

Just because someone's been off the warhorse for a while doesn't mean that they've forgotten how to charge. Take the reunion of the greats from the day at Astabula(sp?) a few years back. I've been told by a current pro that was there that many of those ol' boys can still ride, but if they showed up here under an alias and gave their 2-cents only stating that they used to race but don't anymore, would they be branded armchair racers, too?

Scott -

I agree 100% whole-heartedly that TF is about getting together and hanging out - but in my humble opinion - competitions are also a part of that. I don't ever want to see a TF where people trailer their $10,000 restores in - where they stay on the trailer and everybody just walks around looking and talking trikes. 1/2 the fun of TF is getting out there and riding - whether it be racing MX / Drags - or the casual poker run or just a few guys hitting the trails.

The whole time I am at TF I am thinking about the MX - I love it - but that is only 1/2 the fun. the other half is making new friends - hanging out with old friends - people I have meet at trike events - and general comradere.

I didn't mean to come off so - RACE MINDED - if you will, but other than a select few places in Ohio - where else can you throw down and bang bars on an MX track with other trikes??? Isn't that 1/2 the passion of this sport?

Again - these are just my opinions. What the heck does any of this have to do with armchair racing though???????

This is the best definition I have seen posted. Since I originally coined the phrase, I guess I can rightfully define it! I cant take all the credit, since the term came from my hearing about "armchair quarterbacks", and I pulled it out of my rear one day out of frustration because of one of the many race events I ran alone while several people were talking smack on the boards, said they woudl be there, and didnt show!

Before defining - Youll notice there are a standard set of phrases under everyones board name. This is automatic for everyone and changes based on a persons total number of posts. It used to say "beginner rider" or "newby" or something before, and one of the admins changed it to "armchair racer" because they liked the phrase. EVERY person who makes their first posts and for a ceratin number thereafter will have it displayed under their name. We did not pick anyone out for the purpose of ridicule or questioning tehir ride exerpience. It was done out of simple humor. If we wanted to be realistic, it would be a more accurrate title for those with a boatload of posts in a short time period! (no names mentioned) It was not done with malice towards any individual.

Definition:

"Armchair Racer" is one persons whose majority racing career takes place in an armchair in front of a keyboard. It in NO WAY is demeaning or a shot at those who do not race, UNLESS they race from an armchair! If you choose not to be a racer, nobody is going to disrespect you for that, but if you get on the board talking a bunch of crap about how bad you are, and how great you ride, and badmouthing beginner racers videos and pictures on the board, while claimng your superiority but you cant produce anything better than a lame excuse on race day, you are an armchair racer! We have lots of non-racers on the board that we all respect highly. Then we have armchair racers. If you want to see an example of armchair racers, spend a little time in the "this vs that" forum. We also have armchair mechanics, armchair web masters, armchair exectives, armchair self defense experts, armchair lawyers, etc. Armchair mechanics are easy to spot, and get about as much respect as armchair racers. These are the people who give technical advise to every post, even though they have never seen the machine in question, and simply parrot what they read on some other thread as though they have knowledge of its factual accurracy. (again, no names mentioned)

Remember, in order to be an armchair racer, you must claim to be knowledgeable and experienced about racing, and pretend to be equal or superior to those who are actually doing it! The word "poser" is quite accurrate in that respect.

The mention of racing at Trikefest was NOT an attack on those who do not race, nor the purpose and spirit of Trikefest. It was ridiculing those who talk all the smack of how they will beat everyone, and then decline to race for some lame excuse or mentally fabricated mechanical failure, or imaginary injury that does not exist. Example: "I know I could easily take first in the expert class, but Im not able to race because my clutch lever is bent and I have dandruff and a hole in my sock."

I hope this clears things up. We love are spectators and appreciate their support. You are only an armchair racer if you spent the last year telling me how bad you were going to beat me, and show up as a spectator.
