.008 X .009 valve gap they're fast and easy seat off ,top cover off, adjust and back together 45 min. tops.

other way around, I would listen when its hot, if its ticking your a little tight on the exaust, you can go all the way to .010 on exaust if you are really working it hard, but listen to it hot.
Don't know how long your machine was sitting, but on a regular basis take the top tappet cover off when its running and see if oil is coming up through the top end -- oil pump failure is a major issue and for 30 bucks to replace the pump you want to continue to check it on a regular basis, a new cam is 300+ if you can find one.

ok well when i had it apart to adjust the valves it was all oily ..ill keep checking though thanks...the valve adjusters were cranked ll the way down...explaining the no compression no start issue! it starts right up now....and im getting regular KLT250 green fenders since the red rear prairie fender is disc. the KLT250 green fender will fit right?
