help-flywheel threads damaged atc 70

Bought an 84 atc 70 and need to get to the points. The flywheel tool will not thread on. The first couple of the threads on the flywheel are damaged. Will it damage anything if I get longer bolts and thread them where the pull start piece goes to use a harmonic puller?

If you could get on it straight it might work, the flywheel is steel right? I used a cheap pulley puller on the ones I used to have. I think I had to turn the arms around or something.

file the threads that are damaged ( if they are damage ) so you can reach the good threads .

got it off. the puller workered easily. The previous owner looks like they tapped it with a hammer or socket was loose tightening the flywheel nut. only the first couple threads were damaged just enough that the flywheel puller would not thread on.
