Honda 250R question

Does anyone know what coils will interchange with my 1983 atc 250R ?
such as other 3wheelers or dirt bikes?
mine started cutting out at wide open throttle/top end run.
I have changed plugs,etc and I know my carb is fine...
think it might be the coil.....

Are you thinking it's the external coil, or one of the coils within the stator?
The external coil is fairly universal, as long as you get one designed for CDI, and you can mount it. Any coil you get is probably stronger than the stock one, anyway......
I did a little experiment with an old snowmobile coil I had around, and found that I got much stronger spark than the stock coil. I did still have to give it a good boot, though.
I'm not sure as far as with the internal coils what will interchange.

I didn't even think of the internal coil/stator......
I guess if a coil swap doesn't get it then I will have to check the stator,etc...

The coil part number 30500-GA7-405 on your 250R crosses with the following:

ATC250R 81-84
CR80R 80-81
MB5 1982
NC50 Honda Express 82-83

wow thats crazy! my 300cc trike has a 50cc bikes coil on it!!!! like wtf? i guess that it the next thing i'm going to try to replace!! Damn
