big red problems

ok so I was biking the other day for like 3 hours went to shut my bike off the neutral light wouldnt come on so I shut it off anyway then it would only kick start after that i was driving down the road at WOT and it kept quiting. It is a 85 250 big red.

My suggestion would be the neutral wire has come off the neutral switch hence no light. Without the light or neutral switch cicuit the starter won't switch. I'm not absolutely sure how the cutout circuit works, but the two together would point to a short between the two wire under the seat near the relay box?
