Just wondering what everyone is using for the intake on their 85-86 R's and a 38 or 39 mm carb.
Im using a CR intake/reedcage, which is a hair shorter than the R intake, and a 38mm A/S carb.
I was planning on using the stock airbox, and tube, but it's about an inch away from the throat of the carb.
I don't want to hack my intake tube, and I'm not real sure about clamp-on filters, and how clean they keep your engine.
If anyone has pics of their filter set-up.......I'd like to see a few.

That would be great. Thanks fire!!!
I think it's maybe because the CR intake boot is a little shorter, but it's not by much.
Maybe the carb is a hair shorter than the stock PJ was, also?
I have about 3/4" between the end of the carb, and the end of the airbox boot.

i have a 38mm a/s, stock intake boot, and all stock boot/tubeing/box
let me tell you, it was a pain to stretch the stock intake boot out to fit the carb, and its longer then stock now too. v-force 2 reed cage. its tight fitting the stuff on, its about a cm longer then stock id say. i used to have a reed spacer, it was too much i couldnt fit it on. your option is to 1... buy a reed spacer or 2..... go back to stock trx/atc intake boot, and stretch it out to fit your larger carb. i say hurry up, stretch your stock one, throw it on the bike, throw on the stock crap - get riding!!!!!!

don't know about the cr intake, but I've got an airstryker. If you ever want to cruise over and check things out, feel free.

here's a hint since its a bit dark to take pictures...Put the intake on the carb before you put it on the trike. My best guess is that it would be hard as ever to try to put it on. Hot water is the key. Also airfilter oil. Works like a champ

The problem isn't gertting the intake tube over the carb......I've had it on already, off the bike.
There is about 3/4" of space between the carb throat, and the intake tube.
The CR intake boot is shorter, but the stocker won't be right for the cage.
It will fit, but doesn;t have the stuffer that makes the nice transition to the reed cage.
I need to figure out a way to somehow extend my intake tube without hacking it up, or run a K&N clamp-on filter.

Thats really odd...

Maybe run a reed spacer?

I have a 39 pwk, cr rad valve and 1/2 spacer on my atc250r, I found that the intake boot was too short, by alittle. I loosen the bolts, connected everything, used a heat gun on a low setting and heated around the boot, then tightened the boots slowly and it stretched out the 1/4" it needed.

www.uppracing.com

They make new manifolds to fit the 38-39mm carbs. Its listed for the trx but fits the atc aswell.
