QUESTION: I am the new proud owner of a 1985 Honda Big Red 250ES. Does anybody know what the electrical outlet plug on the front (near the head light) is for? Thank you, Dan

Well it should have a cap on the end of it and an interior portion of the plus. You splice that onto a spot light or winch cable and plug it in there. Its just an aux exterior plug. If you buy a cigarrette lighter spot light from auto store and put that plug off the big red on it, then you can use it anytime you might need it in the woods and what not. There were hondaline spot lights that were sold to work with this plug system back in the days.

Yeah, what Scott said.

I went ahead and wired in a 12V outlet to the plug, so that I don't have to cut the plugs of off things I'll plug into it. It's a pinch connection, so just strip the wire back about 1/8" and stick it in there.

Works great!

Any pics of your Red?

Not yet. Has some cosmetic work that needs to be done, seat, new battery, etc. Thanks for the re-wire idea. Dan

Well this is a good idea if yours is just a rider and not trying to make it look factory. Put a full size lawn tractor battery in the trunk area and zip tie it down. Just buy some longer cable from the auto store and for under 25$ you have a killer battery with tons of power. I do this to all my big reds as I dont want to spend the 50$ for the stock size battery.

Yeah, it's just a 12V cigarette lighter outlet, I think $8 at Wally World, and it has a weather proof sealing cap on it too.

Yeah, Scott has a great idea on the battery, but Scott they are $70-80 now, hehe. I just bought one and put the battery box in so it would be stock looking, and so I can use my trunk now. I looked at those lawn and garden battery's the other day, $19.95, great idea and works great!
