As of April 16th 2007.

I will try to assemble the rear axle assembly tonight. :pics:

Question:wondering : the rear brake lever has an idicator on the shaft, see the 4th picture.

Is the assembly when looking left to right the lever indicator then spring or lever, spring and then indicator?

Thanks

i would have jsut blasted the pad surface ont he drum and taped it up. painting it will cause it to flake off and come off during braking, and then that coudl cause your pads to get gooked up and go bad. (my frond had that happen to his old car he was restoring.)

oscarmayer I'm not getting your comment. I haven't painted any friction surface. The rear brake drum is at the machine shop being skim cut. The cover in the photo doesn't come in contact with any of the pad surface and is painted inside and outside from the factory. The rear drum is cast from Aluminum and will not be painted because it will not rust. In my experience, you can paint the interior of the axle housing IF its properly prep'ed. I've sand blasted everything, cleaned with lacquer, primed with Zinc Chromate self etching primer and final coated with enamel. Help me, I may not have understood which surface you were refering to.

I've attached the schematic of the rear assembly.

The front axle assemble has some overspray on the interior of the drum surface but will be removed prior to assembling.

Thanks

yeah, thats what I think also. But I am going to make certain that the friction surfaces are clean prior to assembling.

I think I have the wear indicator on out of order. Going now to check that.

Here are a few new pictures :pics: of the ATC 200 (1983) restoration project. I am currently working on the frame. Most of it is blasted and now pointing it up with wire wheel......have a few splits in the bottom tube, may have frozen once. I will have patches welded on before priming. I'll post pics of the frame tomorrow.

Any advice from those who have already been down this restoration path is very much invited.

I'm going to overhaul the engine once the bike is reassembled. I plan to punch it out .030 and do top end overhaul only was smoking some when I began this process.

Comments? Advice?

Lar

It's looking great so far. What paint are you using? I want to do the same thing to my Honda this summer if I can find the time, the bike gets pulled apart first this time.
