I just got a CR ignition in the mail last night and I'm ready to hook it up, but theres like 2 ground wires one coming from the coil itself and another one from the harness. Is this normal? Also, how do you guys mount the coil since its a bolt to frame type instead of using the rubber grommet thing? Don't tell me I gotta start welding and cutting on this frame to mount the coil

I've never actually seen the newer CR ignitions, but the harness ground wire should be normal. Then you would ground the coil as well. The ATC harness also had a harness ground, but none on the coil.
The ATC coil grounds through the harness wiring.
As far as mounting the coil, is it possible to make a bracket that bolts to the headstay somehow, or something?
Got any pics?

I have a cr ignition, I did this. Made a bracket attached to the top front head stay bracket bolt. I replaced the bolt with a real long bolt and went through the frame with it. I found that a 200x brake pads holes are perfect for the bracket. The ground gets attached to the coil, thats the only place the ground goes.

I got mine mounted. I already put the radiators back on but I'll try and get some pictures. And yeah it was the ESR kit, got it on ebay. TONS of more spark then the stock setup especially at low RPMS. the stock one you always had to kick the *Edited**Edited**Edited**Edited* out of it to make it fire but this you barely turn it over and its got an arc that looks like it came from a welder.
Well if anyone searching runs across this thread, heres what I ended up doing.
On the grounds, the one coming out of the harness with a terminal I bolted to one of the side mounting posts of the coil. Then I ran the wire from the other post directly to the frame. On my kill switch I hooked the short (ground) wire from my Pro Armor kill switch to the black wire coming from the stator, and the longer hot wire to the black with white stripe coming from the stator. Works awesome, and the thing has so much spark now its insane.
I'm running mine on an ATC so I had to improvise the coil and CDI mounting. On the CDI I mounted it veritcally edge ways parallel with the main down tube from the steering neck with the plug pointed down towards the exhaust. The CDI was to wide to fit in there without being on its side, it would have kept the radiators from bolting back down to the frame flush. On the coil, I found a piece of rubber and squeeze it in between the frame and coil, and then zip-tied it into place. It also goes in long wise, plug wire towards the back of the machine. If I would have had to mount it any further away I would have had to splice in extensions for the wires cause its a little on the tight side now.

Josh, this is what I had on my little 250R flat tracker the year at TF with the 1/4 twist throttle that you and Lou and everyone else that rode thought it ran awesome. That was with a bone stock cylinder and head on it too.
I never really took pictures. Its not real complicated once you get the pieces and sit down and really look at it.
