Hi there guys:

Can someone help me or knows how to fix a kick start lever problem?
The lever just unfolds open, to the kicking position, even if its still it will not stay closed / folded.

I have this problem on both 85 and 86 250's. Has anyone been able to fix this problem.
I have looked and searched but didn't find anything on this, so I turn to the experts @ 3W.W.
Is there a clip or something? Maybe a specific shaped washer or something that can be replicated?
How can I fix this?
Please help.

Thanks.

Its really Quite simple just ask any old farm boy . . . The trick is... (drumroll to a big lead up) bailer twine! hahahaha seriously though if your desperate just make a loop to hook over the kicker.

Yup.....there is a little ball and a spring in there.
I think there should be an e-clip, if memory serves right.
Remove it and the lever comes off the rest of the assembly.

Can those parts (the spring and ball) be found separate? Either way they will need to be bought if lost or wore out.
Where to get those?
Or will I need to buy a new kick starter? (hope not)

About the loop to hook up the kicker, well thanks, but I'll leave that as the last resort, but it's always an option. I'll try and do it right. Thanks tho.

Your help it's always apreciated guys.

It was meant as a joke/temp fix till you get it fixed/last resort. It would just annoy me that I would have to do that untill I could find how to really fix it.

You could probably find the right size ball at a good hardware store.......maybe a spring, too.
I don't know if they are available, but I would think they would be the same as a fourtrax 250R, maybe others, as well.

You can use a .250 steel ball and heavy spring, stock is .236 or 6mm.

Usually the big journal and hole are too worn to be fixed,

Hey Joe: Love your avatar pic, I'm a freak of the "White Srouds " as well.
I'm currently restoring an 85 R and it has the white shrouds with a restored tank and all new red Maier plastic. Seat will be at the Moshes in a few days time.
Can't wait!!!!
