I just got a call from the owner of a air cooled 250R that wants $250 for it. Its beat pretty bad, the plastic is broken, axle bearings are shot, swingarm is a little lose, fork seals are shot and the shifter shaft is striped. Am I nuts if I buy it or would it be worth saving?

Does it run?

I say go for it if you have the funds. Sounds like a decent project for the money.

Yes it seems to run pretty good. The guy said its bored 40 over. Is there any more room to bore if it needs it? I'm headed for the bank to get the cash as soon as I get a little more feedback from you guys.

Sorry men but my camera craped out a while back so no pix. I've been in the shop for about 2 hours looking her over and here is what I found. The shifter shaft is striped for sure. The steering head bearings are shot. The axle bearings are shot. The swingarm bearings seem OK for now. The fork seals are good after all. The rear shock is shot. Sprockets and chain OK. The brakes both work good. Near new front tire. Rear tires not bad. The tank don't seem to leak but has a dent.
I did ride it a little today and now I can't wait to fix her up a little and give her a good thrashing.

I wish that I could say. The stickers are all gone on this one. Is there an easy way to tell what year it is?

Thanks for the info Ttown and Newby yes it has tank fins. At least now I know what parts to search for. I have a feeling this will take me some time to fix on my budget but it will give me a good dune ride.........OOOOOHHHHHHHH Man I think I just wet myself.

lol well get them bearings first and get them in, then you can ride it between putting on parts, without hurting anything!!!!!
thats all i do, mine looks like crap but flies! seats all torn up, someone painted the frame so its black and red, just a bunch of minor stuff like that
