Does anyone know the outer thread size for the alternator removal tool for the Honda atc200 1982/3. I've figured out the shaft thread size but I'm having trouble with the outer one. Is there a safe way to remove the alternator without this tool. I checked the resistance of the red/black wire to ground as per the manual but I havent got the resistance that the manual specifies. It's and open contact on the exciter coil. I need to replace this in order to get spark. The pulse generator and the ignition coil are good. I wasn't able to check the
CDI as the manual states I need some special meter for this to ensure it is working. I havent tried to measure it with my meter yet. I'll probably be stubborn and try it anyways.:wondering

spend the 12-18 dollars and buy the tool on ebay. youll save money if you break something due to not using the right puller. Check to see if you can borrow one from someone in Canada or something.

CDI's rarely go bad IMO.

if your talking about the stater-,and its the same as my 83 200x just use a bolt from the hardware store- dennis kirk wanted 10 bucks-
i bought a bolt ,and used a electric impact, no problems-
toss it in your truck and take it to the store with ya-

I went to Princess auto and bought a universal flywheel puller for $20.00 Cad. Works great!

the thread is M14 1.5 pitch i think

i used a hardware store bolt and i dipped it in wheel bearing grease before i threaded it into the flywheel so it would be nice and lubed up to help things out

The tool that you need for pulling the flywheel is left hand thread, and I'm sure it's bigger than 14.5 mm.

Well, couldn't find a flywheel puller so I bought a steering wheel puller and improvized a little and she's outta there. Now I checked the stator and the exciter coil is definitely toast. gotta look for one now... Thanks guys:beer
