Hi everyone, I have just joined this forum. I live in the UK and am currently restoring a 1985 Honda ATC 125m. It is my first attempt at restoring a trike and the 125m I picked up is in really bad shape.

I have spent the last 6 months acquiring parts (which isn't easy in the UK) and have now got everything I need, and i'm ready to start.

My first problem came when I attempted to take off the old tyres only to find they had rusted to the rims. I have spent hours cutting them away from the rim but there is still a large portion of tyre stuck to the rim. What do I do?? I really can't get them off!

You'r going to have to cut away the rubber around the bead and clip the steel wires. :welcome:

I've had the same problem with trx 125 rims. Just cut and be patient. May be some cold beer could help????:)

welcome to the boards. lots of good info on here, and good people as well. if it were me, i would use a torch and burn the old tire off. hahahahaha, no only kidding. keep working at it, you'll get em eventually.

i woudl recommend using a brass scraper instead of a steel one. it won;y damage the steel wheel but will help get the rubber off. you can alkso easly keep sharpening the brass to keep an edge on it to help eat the rubber away. after get a drill sized wirebrush, put th hweel in a vice or clamp it down some way and start wirbrishign the lip till it's clean. sorry, no magical answers. simple greeen to help eat the rubber may help too.

oO i also jsut rememerbed an old trick someoen once told me. I never tried it. drop the peice in a bucket of deasol (sp?) gas and let it soak for a few days. it will start to soften and eat it up to where it will be easy to scrap off.
