Is it a 6-speed or 5-speed ?

This ytx 250 is a five speed, accually all the Tri-zs' I have collected are five speeds. I guess that makes them all early 85s? I'm really pumped to be finally getting to this resto because it's all the best stock parts I have. First I put the rig all together and rode it quit a bit, then put another engine in it that I had built and broke that in. Now that I put the next rig together for my daily rider I totally stripped this one and am going to town on it:naughty:
Here is a picture of the engine after tear-down, also my daily rider. I named this latest Z Golddigger after my wifes favorite song to shake it to:w00t: and yup that's her:p
I just wish I had more time to play with all these toys, I have a lot of paying customer work that needs to be done before I can get spend all my time working on my own stuff.

Lookin good! :beer can you tell me what you did to the exhaust? Is that hi temp chrome paint or what?

Hi Chris,
I sent the exhaust out to a plater through an automotive specialist. I think it's called Airbourne coatings or maybe now Conneticut coatings. It's the same type of coating that people use on their headers in their hot rods. That stock pipe was a mess before I sent it to them, all rust and a huge mouse nest inside, now it's mint. You can see the dimples from where the rusty spots were but all the rust is gone now. Even the inside looks like that. I'm curious to see what it looks like after I run it a bit. Later, Dan
P.S. It cost me 130 $, but I sent it to someone who sent it to someone who sent it to someone else:cry: I bet if I sent it direct it would've been half that.

It looks good. I'm not sure what direction to go with mine. Mine is pitted like that and all the rust is removed. it's painted with the hi temp but it's a very dull flat black. Ya think the gloss black 500 degree engine paint will hold up on it for the time being? The flat black I used is the hi temp 1200?

I wanna go with a new DG chrome but that's just not in my budget right now.

I don't have any experience painting exhaust but I do know that the pipe gets very hot. I imagine the paint would work but you may have keep after it with WD40 or something. I have one of the DG works looking pipes and after running in the deep snow for only 500 yards or so it turned dark purple, almost black. Still looks cool but I'll never see the works finish again.

That was on purpose, that's accually a double rainbow. We spotted that this fall and I just had to snap that shot...
