I am getting no fire on my 82 250r.
I put a brand new plug in it and tested it against the head to check for spark. No spark.
Is there anything else I can check befor I start looking for a new CDI box?
it may be your coil, but first check every connection and plug and switches

is there a way to test the coil?
Sorry, I'm not very mechanical and am just learning as these problems arise.
yea you have to use a ohm meter, and if your not very technical than, you may have to ask for some more help, you would also have to use the ohm meter to test the stator, but before you go that far make sure you check all conections, remember that thing is old! and stuff can break and come loose easier over time.

I had this problem too on my trike. It turned out to be the coil. I ended up buying a new CDI box but it wasn't the problem. Coils are cheap so start there. In my area those boxes start at 80 bucks and go up...

cool. I'm gonna call my local dealer now.
Also, I changed all the conections and everything looks cool.
Where do I need to do these test with my ohm meter.
Here is my wireing diagram.

I do not have a head or a tail light.
Thanks,

First Clean all the Conections , than kick it over HARD & FAST ...
If you get No Spark , TEST the Coil ... Then the STATOR

Double check the kill switch (speaking from experience here)
Carefully double check all the connections. (don't forget the regulator)
Clean them all if they are even remotely corroded or dirty.
Go to NAPA and get some Dielectric grease and use it on all of the connections.
Test your kill switch. If you have a tether or anything other than the stock switches installed, eliminate them from the equation.
Try unplugging the lights (don't forget the tail light)
Check your grounding. Make sure the engine is grounded to the frame, make sure the ground wire that bolts to the frame is a good connection.
Look for pinched or shorted wires around the steering area.
It is a long story that spans eight years, two coils, three stators, four CDI units, and a sparkplug for me, but my first '85R, as of last week finally has spark again.

well I am getting spark now. I took of the spark plug wire from the coil and trimed it down and reset it.
But now I got much worse problems.
When I get it running it runs very very slugish and eventualy dies out.
And on top of that I replaced the clutch cable and now I can't get the clutch to work, manualy or otherwise.
I'm so depressed.......lol
