Alright, I decided to explore some new trails on my trike yesterday evening and broke my own rule. Usually I like to ride slow through the trails until I get familiar with them but come on, you guys know how hard it is to ride slow on these trikes! Anyways, I’m hauling down this trail that looks like it was made by a quad. It was kinda wet in spots but only about 6 inches deep. So I’m cruising through this water up to some higher ground where I decide to sit and rest for a second. I can see the trail continue up ahead through some more water and then up to some dry ground so I decide that I’ll get to that dry ground and sit and have a smoke. I didn’t think anything about it cuz like I said; it looked like this trail has been ridden on by someone else. Ok, so I take off in 1st, shift to 2nd and nail it through this watery trail when all of a sudden my whole trike is underwater stalled! I mean, all I could see was the handlebars!! I jumped off the side of it into chest deep water not knowing what the h*ll just happened! I go to walk around the front of it and couldn’t feel the bottom so I run around to the other side of it and grab it by the handlebars and headlight guard and pull it to the side until the motor was out from underwater. I sat there for a couple minutes in shock I think. Once I realized what happened I mustered up enough strength to pull it completely out of water expecting to have to push it all the way home. I thought I would give it a kick just for the heck of it and it fired right up. I couldn’t believe it!! I rode it home and it ran perfect! Once I got home I checked my cell phone and it still worked. I was pissed cuz if I knew it was still working I would have taken some pics for you guys! I’ll tell ya, I’ve always had 2 strokes and was pretty hesitant about getting a 4 stroke but I love it! I’m impressed everyday with it. Anyways, sorry about the long story but I just had to tell someone and I figured, who else but other trike owners! I guess the moral of the story is to keep your smokes up high when you’re riding so they don’t get wet and check your phone before you get all the way home so you can get some pics!!

Yeah, that's mine in the pic. It's dirty now but I'll clean it up this weekend. Hey Eric, what are the proper steps in cleaning it out? I was going to drain the oil this weekend but is there something else that I am supposed to do?

nothing to worry about, i take mine river riding all summer long, im ususally in water high enough to submerse my engine and airbox, never to the handle bars, if it gets to deep i just jump off and walk/swim beside it while it floats and pulls me around, ive never had it die in the water and never had water in my engine, i always check it and drain and change it and have never found water. i always spray my ingnition coil, and cdi box with that really cheap hair spray to waterproof it, i make sure all my wires in my wring harness are spliced good and taped up realy well. i use a uni air filter and the oil on the filter seems to bead off the water. but as i said, the water has never bothered mine.

Hey 2spreman2,
just to make sure your oil isnt full of water. I would drain it out, if it looks milky, you got water. Flush it out a couple times with some cheap oil. After the first refill, run it for a second to circulate. I have also been told to use a little transmission fluid mixed with oil. I was told it will absorb water, then you just drain and repeat.
I have flushed my engine up to 5 times before trying to get all the water out. I know thats a lot of oil, but think of the high route: bearings, rings, valves, ect.
I would also check my airfilter, and box.
Then just make sure the bikes all lubed up.
Good luck man! :beer

If it was truly up to the handlebars for couple of minutes, I really can't believe it fired back up?! and made it home?!

using that isoheat gasoline water remover mixed with oil, run for about 30 second and shut it off... that isoheat clings to the water and pulls it out. works great. i found this out after about 7 flushes and water was still coming out
