i was wondering whats the best adjustment on my 86 250sx. stiff susp. or loose susp. i mostly ride trails, mud, and hills. is it better to have stiff susp. for those riding conditions?

From my knowledge (not alot) this is what I think, when your adjusting there is a number of adjustments. As for just adjusting what you have, you got your nitrogent gas pressure, and your shock tension compresor.

As for what both do, its just basicly trial and error to find out which is good. But I adjust he nitrogent so it takes up the slack for my weight, basicly just adjust it so that It doenst sag down alot, but its not like stepping onto a rock. The spring tensioner, is for rebuild and compression which keeps it from bottoming out.

Now for which is best, soft, or hard, If you jump alot (me) its good to have it more on the hard side to endure the hard landings, and keep the frame from splitting in half. You can how ever blow your nitrogen seals if its too tight, and too much compression.

If you dont jump that often, the looser you can get it, without botteming out, is better for woods and trails. Having it soft will help take the bumps, ruts, and help move your body around to control it.

Im probably totaly wrong, but oh well it got my post count up..

Not totaly wrong, your post counts up! :D but unless '86 is diff from '85, there is no nitrogen adj.. The only adjustment on my '85sx is a rotating spring compressor at bottom of shock w/4-5 different levels of tension. I weigh about 175 and have mine on 2nd lightest setting. Try them all, see what you like.

I would have run to garage and checked on # of settings but just got order from jlatvproducts.com ,today, in it was Shockwears shock cover 8)(didn't want to take it off to chk.) Chrome lug nuts 8) new frt. fender 8) and universal mud flaps :? (HOWDY, I need those oem flaps, any luck!)

So I know your all droolin' for pics! Here they are: :-P :D :-P :D :-P :D :-P

als250 is right, there is no nitrogen adjustment, there is a 5 step tension ring. im a big guy , 240lbs and 6ft 2in so i have it all the way up to make up the weight, i was just wondering if that was a good idea. thanks.
