View Full Version : I can't get it to stop revving!! Help!!
The 84 YTM 225 won't calm down! It revs at too high of an rpm when idling. I have had the carb apart twice now, put in a richer pilot jet, moved the slide needle to the middle ring (from the top ring) and tried screwing in and screwing out the air screw while the trike is running... The only thing that is not up to snuff is the choke. The cable is not air tight at the top. The engine revs faster when I pull the choke cable that is hanging there now, and goes back to the regular fast idle after I let go of it. Screwing in or out the idle screw does nothingat all. Is there an idle adjustment that I am missing?

Check the throttle body to see if the slide is going down all the way. If it's turned 1/2 a turn it will stay wide open and cause the motor to rev wildly.

im thinking you have an air leak somwhere probably that choke.
I am going to try pulling that choke cable off the capping the top - leaving the choke piece in the carb. I have a new choke cable on the way this week... It isn't revving wildly, just higher than I want it to... What does it do if I drop the slide needle all the way down to the bottom ring?

The clip on the needle is to richen or lean out your carb. I would check your cable first, my dx had this problem that under the tank the cable would be routed wierd and would get pulled and make it rev high. Take off your tank loosen up your cable and see if it helps. Also the screw on the side of the carb with a philips insert and a spring is your idle twist t counter clockwise and see if taht helps.
Not much change with the choke cable surgery... I do not have the cap for the cam chain tightner (part #17 on bikebandits schematics under cam chain) and it is blowing a little oil out of it - It might be sucking in some air and making the bike run fast. I have both the choke cable and that cap on order. Is there more to the choke than the one slide piece attached to the cable and spring?
