Is there some kind of paint to duplicate that look?

I believe it's cadmium plating that gives them that gold look. Eastwood has a cadmium replicating spray paint kit that's designed for restoring cars.

I've painted bolts before. Problem is that as soon as you install it, you destroy half of the paint with your tools.
Now I just go stainless.....

you need to have the bolts electoplated in zinc with yellow chromate thats what the factory uses , any plating shop will do zinc plating standars silver colored bolts are zinc plated with a clear Mike

I just got my batch back today. nuts , bolts , axles , hubs, sleeves, shifters, brake pedal, springs , ect. I'll post a pick later. 4 WEEKS SILVER LAKE!!!!
Here are the pic's I was telling you about. everything turned out nice. Priceing is not bad at all. I did most of my bike last year, frame , swinger , exaust, hard to replace nuts and bolts and more . It cost me almost 200.00 and this time it was not even half that. Lopes:w00t: :w00t:

Ditto on both ?'s.
What I wonder also, is it just cheaper to go the SS route or have them plated and I guess it depends how much of a stickler you are on the originality of it.
