87 125M axle nut compression washer

This is like a concaved copper washer (guess that's what you call it?), does anyone know if I install it outward (2nd pic) so there is no gap or inward (1st pic) with a gap so when I tighten the nut it will flatten the washer?

Just thought of this ..........I guess a lot of models are set up this way so I'll check one manual I have, not sure if even the manuals would tell me though :(

I think that the concave part goes toward the nut.

I got a bit a head of myself, the cover and that cover disc plate go on 1st but still the same question.
