I am picking up this 82 250r tomorrow (500 bucks, Whoooo-Hoooooo).

This will be my first attemt at a complete restore/mod and was just wanting to get any suggestions.

Where should I start?

Where do you guys get all tho's "shiney" parts. Motor parts, etc.?

I am going to order black plastics from meier. Are they pretty good?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
~Jason~

Find some good red OEM plastic on eBay. You won't find new but keep looking and something real good will show up. Keep it stock appearing on the recond if you want it to be worth anything when your done

Im trying to get all the original parts to do a restore, already have a paint shop lined up for next winter.
I havnt seen much for the 81/82 R when it comes to (Shiney)stuff, seems the water cooled R's get all the cool stuff lol???
Maier has been around forever and makes great plastic stuff,I was thinking about the white fenders for mine but think I will stick with red?
Theres a lot of things you can do to improve the 82,newer forks, swing arm ect.. but I want mine pretty much stock but a little more width in the rear and maybe a extended swing arm if I can find one and a Hi Flite seat would be great??
Good luck and cant wait to see what you do with your R!!!

The guy said he just put new plastics on it. I just thought black would look cool with silver and chrome decals.

Yea, It's already extended and has wheel spacers but it apears the motor has been painted black.

I was thinking about haveing the fram and motor sandblasted and haveing the frame powder coated.

81/82's are my favorite. Had an 81 from 1982-1993. I bought this 82 last year.

I guess restore isn't really the right word for me. I guess it's more like mod. i want to make it a one of a kind. I will be changing the look some. Color, decals, etc.

Yeah the 82 is cool. Honestly I really wanted a water pumper but for 500 I couldn't pass it up. Plus it looks pretty mean extended.

Thats a sweet looking r teeks. See the motor is red. It's black on mine. I don't like the motor being painted. I would leave it if it was the original red tho.

Hmmm, I asked him and he said it was all original.

Maybe the whole bike is an 83. Is there anyway to tell from the pics?

I'll make sure I check it out tomorrow.

Thats a great bike, i have never seen an 81-82 R with that stance, it looks great that way. I think the tires and extnded swinger that its got make it look awesome. That trike makes me want to have an 81 or 82. Nice find.

Hey, The 200x headlights are alot smaller than the 81-82 R's and wont work....Meier only made red and white plastics for the 81-82 so no black unless you wanna paint it:( .... It is an 81-82 the 83's were changed alot and looked alot differnt.....If it has drum brakes on the back it is an 81 if it has disc brakes on the back it is an 82 ..... Looks like a pretty decent ride for $500.00 though, I have an 81 with a few mods and I like it, It could use a little more travel in the suspension and the rear end needs to be atleast 2-4 inches wider but its still a fun bike.....Good luck with it man, I wanna see it when you get done :beer .....Here is a pic of mine.....

The kid that works for me is going to pick it up now......I'm so excited and I have no patience at all. It'll prolly take him all day to make the trip there and back.

But atleast its friday and I'll have the entire weekend to put it thru it's paces.
I'll let you guys know how that goes.

Well it finally got here saturday night.

It has been bored and this thing is scary fast.

I can cut biskits on this thing untill it runs out of gas. And even with the extended swing arm I have no trouble geting it in the air.

This is my first two stroke and I gotta say, I'm adicted.
The DG exhaust sounds great.

This is deffinitly the best deal I've ever came across.
Not to shabby for 5 bills.

Ohh yea, I got the front brake fixed too. Rideing this beast without any brakes is not an option.

I'll have some ride video tomorrow. PM me if you wanna see and I'll get you the link.
