Hello everyone, I just replaced the head on my 83 110 yesterday and I need a pointer on how to set the timing right. I dont have a manual for this one yet as i'v not really needed one. But any help on this would be great. Thanks.

put it at TDC the cam goes in with lobes facing down and the cam sprocket can only bolt on one way thats a good starting point.

Ok well I set the piston to the top of the cylander and put the timing sprocket in with the o facing up than i put in the cam shaft with the teeth facing down. Put it all back together. I still cant get it to start, it gets spark, i know the carb works, it has gas in the tank and everything flows right. Is there anything i did or could have done wrong? thanks again for any help. :TrikesOwn Oh and one more thing..it spits gas out of the little breathing tube on the carb when i pull the starter with the choke on.

Hey rider i'v got a question. Do you think it could be a bad valve? This head came off a parts engine of mine. Also i have tons of carb parts and just built a good looking carb for it. I need to seal the bowl and then im gonna give it a try. But if it dont work I was thinking the valves could be at fault. I have a spare set of those to if i need them.

I do know theres the 50/50 chance thing to watch out for. I looked through the spark plug port and the cdi is at the fire position just after that valve closes. I think thats right not sure though.

try flipping the black rotor over 180 degrees then try to start it....then please report back?

By black rotor do you mean the little black box that the wires run to? If so i set it in the same position it was in when it ran. its off to the lower right side. I can still give it a go though if needed. I just need to wait til the sealer dryes on the carb. Thanks for all your help by the way. :)

Ok....I injected fuel into the the SP port with no luck starting, Did the 180 thing, put a carb on that was off a running trike i had (with new jets) and still no luck getting it started. It is spitting gas back and into the air intake and soaked the filter. All i can think of is either a bad valve or I need to double check my timing work. I did it just as its spose to be done though. Piston all the way at the top of cyl, i put the sprocket in the chain making sure not to move the piston, i put in the cam shaft teeth down and bolted it all together. And it spits gas through the carb and into the intake. any ideas? :(

put your hand over the intake and pull the carb is it blowing or sucking in air?

When i put my hand over it, it sucks and then blows. even with my hand pressed firm it still sucks and then blows.

also a new valve will need to have the seat lapped so the valve wont leak

Well red i have no idea whats wrong with this darn thing. I'v tried to reset the timing and all that still no luck though. I checked out that valve and it seems fine. Also i dont see why it would be the valves because this head came off a running engine i had with a bad tranny. All i can think of now is i am doing something wrong with the timing. there is 3 markings on the flywheel one is a O the other is a T and i think the last is a F. Would you happen to know anyone that could scan me the timing page of a 110s manual? I'v tried everything i can think of.....even stuff that i didnt think would be wrong.

Well I think im making some progress. I got it to back fire lol but at least it fired...it dont seem to be spittin as bad either. I think im a few teeth off on the timing. I'll just keep going tooth by tooth and see what happens.
