So I went and looked at a 86 250R today. back plastics cracked, tank faded, float sticks so the carb overfills and dumps fuel, front brake resivoir site glass is cracked. I can get it for $600, its got a chrome exhaust, good tires. big problem is the guy cant find the title. He says his friend might have it, etc. but being this town probably doesnt have more that a few dozen 250R riders, I would hate to buy it and when I decide to sell it find out its stolen. Is there anyway you can check these things out? I dont kid myself, I buy these things, clean them up and flip them. Im leery about the price. I think its a very good deal, but without a title, i just don't know. what does everyone here do? Jim

I wouldn't worry about it not having a title as long as the VIN comes back clean and you get a good receipt from the seller. Most trikes don't have titles. Only one of mine does and that's only because it came from California.

Here's a receipt form (http://www.3wheelerworldforums.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=30635&d=1152373809) I made a while back. You can type in everything or just print and have it written in.

Well he called back! The title does exist, hes suppose to get it notorized hopefully monday or tuesday, if so Im going to pick it up wed. I checked the sprocket area and it looks clean. one of the chain gaurd bosses is broke off, but the case is good. small oil leak, around the shifter. chain looks like it could be replaced. guys tossing in a extra headlight assy. flywheel tool and anything else for the trike. hopefully I'll be posting pictures soon. So at 600 bucks is that a decent price? I looked on ebay of course and seeing some crazy prices, but I thought for 600 bucks I cant go wrong. hopefully when I get tired of it I can flip it for a few bucks. Jim

Or you can flip it the normal way people flip 3 wheelers and lose a few bucks!

A water pumper R for $600 is a steal even if it doesn't run these days.

ive been very fortunate, I havent lost a dime on any of my trikes, But I usually find them not running and buy them cheap. It helps to have a site like this to ask knowledgable people how to trouble shoot problems. This will be the most Ive ever spent on a trike at one time. My last 250r was a 84, had a siezed piston. I paid 250 for the trike, had it bored and bought a piston kit for $240, sold it for $650. but it didn't have a second gear. I bought a 76 atc 90 a couple weeks ago. paid $100 for it, bought 3 tires for 100 bucks, got a carb kit, cables for 40. I might get $300 for it if im lucky but I wont sell it for less than $240.

Well look at the craisglist and cycle trader for phoenix. You rarely ever see a water pumper go for less than $1200 and more typically $1500+. If I stumbled upon a water pumper for $600 I'd jump on it without a second's hesitation.

Well, im officially in the 250R owner. Guy called tonight, said he found the title, had it notarized and come and get it. If I keep it I will defintly get a new chain, the one on its kind of rusty, I just dont want to take a chance on busting it. probably a new rear plastic and seat cover too. I'll try to get some pics posted. Jim
