kickstart slipping on 250 big red

[Big red 250]

When i kick my 250 big red over it slips like crazy it barely grabs. I have seen people say it was 2 different things when i was searching around on this site.One was the two gears that r behind the sideplate that the kickstarter is on and number 2 was the one way spinning bearing. I was just wondering if anybody could tell me for sure what it is. Any feedback on this would be greatly appreciated thanks.

its 99.9% the one way clutch sprag . if you dont replace it you risk damaging alot more and spending 50% more to fix it

I agree 100%. The one-way clutch is the most common part to fail on these machines.

i had a problem just like that but found out there was no bolt on the kick start so it was spinning around the teeth but you probably check that. just a thoght

100% agree after been havin a few 250 big reds and 2 250sx.. seems that is the fault of them all.. better repalce it soon once one wears out it will damage the other one way bearing behind the magneto happened to my 250sx:(

I know this is an old thread, but I have a question.



the one way clutch being discussed here, is it the one that sets in the centrifugal clutch assemby? then the second one behind the rotor?

The one behind the flywheel is for the electric start to be allowed to freewheel.

The one within the centrifugal clutch is the one that fails and works with the kickstarter.

The one-way clutch that goes bad most often is #25 in the attatched picture.
