Hey,

It's been a while since i posted (2yrs 11 months) and i have a hankering to be ripping around on my trike this spring.

Its been down for some time (early 04' iirc) it broke a cam chain tensioner and allowed the chain to jump off the cam sprocket and wedge down in the case before it got to the bottom just kinda piled up. chewed up the case some dumping alum shavings into it.

ok on to my question before it broke it would turn over quite easily by hand on the dog cage. once i got it back together it still spins over but its a lot more stiff to turn. its sat for about a 2 year period with me randomly spinning it over once or twice when it crossed my mind about 4 -6 times I'm guessing. its the same plug in or out (aside from the added resistance of compression)

Is this normal, or do i need to pull it back out of the fame and fully tear it down?
i skiped the full teardown before as i had no interest in pulling the bottom apart and dealing wilth all the little parts.

Thanks all
Joe

Rust on the cylinder walls maybe?

Rust on the cylinder walls maybe?

now there is the possibility of that. but it was like this when i reassembled the top end. could the cam tentioners being good make this much differance?

On a slight side note, what TRX engines will fit? with mild modding, no frame cutting.

Thanks guys

Well guess that settles it, apart it comes.

Anything i need to watch out for while tearing it down? Any special tools needed for the bottom end?

Thanks all
Joe

It's most likely the main bearings - they don't like to sit around....

You need a Service Manual and a flywheel puller. You don't need all the holding tools if you have an air impact gun and the cases should split with a plastic hammer. Or I like to put the bolts back in a few threads and tap on them. If something doesn't come apart easy, your doing it wrong or need the correct tool.
