$150 to bore a 200x sleeve

Went by the best machine shop in town and thats what they quoted for boring it. Reason being their boring machine doesn't go that small and they would have to do it on another machine by hand and it takes about an hour per thousandth. So .040 would take around 3 to 4 hours. I had the honda shop in another town bore my 125 and it was like 30 bucks I think for .040 over. So I've got a couple other places to check but they acted like .040 was just too much. Oh well. Anyone else had problems getting a sleeve bored?

why are you going .040 over? unless there are deep scratches, you just wanna go the minimum (.010). anything more isn't going to gain you any power or anything.

Why not? The .040 over piston was the same price as the std. bore, .010 and .020 over bores. Might as well go all the way. The Honda shop that bored my 125 said the same thing. Once you go all the way thats it. Big deal. If it ever craters I've got another 10-15 185 and 200S sleeves at my disposal. Thats how I look at it.

should cost no more than $50 to bore a 2 stroke cylinder. they cost a bit more as the borer has to camfer all the ports, well should. a 4 stroke is all solid and is easy. but shops ussually do charge more for each 20 thousandths over. i know i went through it with the local honda shop.

yeah.. but it makes more sense to bore it one size over.. then if you need to bore it again.. you have A FEW BORES LEFT.. why go all the way when you seriously don't need to???!!! wouldn't it be cheaper to just bore it one over and buy a piston and have the ability to repeat this procedure a few more times when you need to??? instead of nexttime, having to get it sleeved AND a new piston or a new cylinder + piston?????

going to the max bore for no reason is a wast of a jug imo.

i agree... parts aren't plentiful for these things.. don't waste a cylinder because the piston is the same price no matter what the bore... you won't even notice a difference in power (due to the size)...

The extra 1.5 to 3 cc's (not sure of exacts and am not doing the math right now) isn't gonna gain enough power to throw away an extra overbore. Get the estimate for how much it actually needs to be oversized, order the the appropriate piston, then have the machinist size the jug to new (in hand) piston to the manufactors spec.

Once again, i think its a waist, but i did figured it our to be about a 8cc gain actually, (makes it a 200.92cc) which surprised me, but its still not gonna make those power gains

Every little bit helps. Didn't know 200 parts were rare. Like I said earlier I'm not worried about it being bored all the way. If it ever needs done again, ok, no big deal.

Uh... the 200x parts aren't all that rare, the XR200 is the same engine not withstanding the reverse kicker parts.
