Depending on how thick the grease is, I love brake parts cleaner for the thin layers. It goes fast though and may harm some types of painted surfaces, but it cleans well and dries quickly.

Just my thoughts.....

Castrol super clean, or Purple Power. Super clean is infinitely expensive, its like $10 a gallon around here. Purple power works just as good and its $15 for a 5 gallon tub at Napa here. Thats all I use anymore.

Purple power is less than 5 a gallon at walmart around here and the castrol thats almost the same, maybe a little stronger is around 2 dollars more a gallon.I use puprple power for everything, degreasing, tire cleaner whitewall cleaner.Just dont get it on gloss paint or it will become dull for sure.Dont breAthe the stuff its strong.

Castrol Super Clean by far is the best I've ever used. Don't let it sit on painted surfaces for more than 3 or 4 minutes though! Super clean and a pressure washer will make just about any bike look new!

PURPLE POWER!!!! Maybe I just have weak skin but everytime I use it (without latex gloves) it like eats the skin off of my hands... That ought to tell ya that its some strong stuff. And for the oil...Klotz

Yeah, you should allways use Neoprene gloves when applying solevents. Especially harsh solevents. I think they are all bad for you to put your hands in. Sorry about the safty tip but it's true.

Another vote for CASTROL SUPER CLEAN.

Use a squirt bottle, let it sit and pressure wash away. Very very good cleaner. Greased Lightning is good also, just not AS good....

Wd 40 for all light grease and oil then go over entire bile with s100. Its availiable at all finer new bike shops and works wonders on all surfaces. Dirt dissolves, light oily films dissappear and you just spray let sit and hose off. Even plastics have a a shine after use. Its what shops use to detail new and used units before delivery. And i believe its what pro motocross and quad racers use in the pits after races. Then they spray it off. However it is a bit pricey, but worth it. About $9 a pint an a half.

Pricey and well worth it - maybe so for the fortunate ones :) But if someone is simply looking for an inexpensive general degreaser - Castrol at about 8$ a gallon prior to being diluted - is the way to go.
Shine - Shmine, it's just gonna get muddy anyhow :D

Earlier today I just got done using the purple power on this engine and while I used other cleaners as well on it, I did notice (with scrubbing) that the stuff really does work well.

this stuff i work with its called citrus power, we have dilute it with alot of water for it to be used on surfaces and stuff, im sure just that straight will do the job flawlessly. Its so strong after dilute that its like peper spray hard to breathe. good stuff on grease and oil.

comes in the gallon and im sure you can buy it online for like 8$.

Does that stuff do a good job? I'd be interested in trying it.
